I want to play two versions of the game. Is there a way to install the game so I can play 2 separate versions at the same time on the same computer?

Yes, just install to 2 differently named game folders and set two different shortcuts to the individual "WarInTheEast.exe" files located in the two main game folders.

OK, I set up two different folders with two different short cuts. When I run the updates in one game both games end up with the same update. What am I doing wrong? Sorry, as you can tell by this post I'm not a computer jockey.

The Update should only be installed in the location you installed last. Also the version shown in the game menu bar is read from the OS registry, the actual game .exe version is shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu.

Correct. Also, if the OP wishes to update 'both' installations, it will be necessary (using Windows Explorer) to judiciously manipulate the installation folder names around to accomplish it. (i.e. The registry stores the folder location name of the LAST installation)
