How to add new vehicles and weapons?

let's say I wanted to add some things like the M14 rifle, the M59 APC, or the Bv 206 . . .
And let's say I want to have these things properly scaled in relative game terms whether its a vehicle carrying weight or a weapon.
Would it be just as easy to borrow the stats from a similar weapon or vehicle and rename it? Or is it worthwhile e.g. trying to capture incremental differences between various 7.62 NATO battle rifles or googling the ground pressure difference in snow between the Bv and a Bradley?

from what I've seen in the weapons data, only certain aspects are modelled, there most likely a few 'stats' that are a combination of real world attributes
But it is easy enough to copy an existing weapon system (just rename the WEAPTAG column or you'll get either no new weapon or a strange effect), check the older forum posts for a conversation around effective range in game being shorter than real world.

Looks like they have given us few numbers to argue about. These guys are smart.
For the M14 it looks like I could use the British SLR and call it a day. And so on.
Thank you for the input.

Numbers can always be "discussed" because there are so many sources and beliefs that drive them. We have worked to place the best unbiased, unclassified, and most useful numbers in the game. The real work is how the game engine uses them and how it all assembles to give decent real world results (when everything is working right [:D] ).
Numbers can be wrong too. I'm not 100% foolproof. I have made errors and when folks see them we do jump on fixing them as quick as we can. So ask questions. Point out things that look off kilter. The more inputs and eyes the better the game gets for everyone.
