i.e. classifying targets and sending status update back to me? Prior to impact?

"Tactical Tomahawk

A major improvement to the Tomahawk is network-centric warfare-capabilities, using data from multiple sensors (aircraft, UAVs, satellites, foot soldiers, tanks, ships) to find its target. It will also be able to send data from its sensors to these platforms. It will be a part of the networked force being implemented by the Pentagon.

"Tactical Tomahawk" takes advantage of a loitering feature in the missile's flight path and allows commanders to redirect the missile to an alternative target, if required. It can be reprogrammed in-flight to attack predesignated targets with GPS coordinates stored in its memory or to any other GPS coordinates. Also, the missile can send data about its status back to the commander. It entered service with the US Navy in late 2004."

EDIT: Pretty cool, if it works as advertised.

Now I wonder if I can redirect in Command :)

TACTOMs are pretty damn cool! They maintain a datalink up till they themselves blow up. They can be re-targeted as well.

If I fire more than 2-3 TLAM Tomahawks, I will usually follow up with 1-2 TACTOM Tomahawks to tell me what the first group blew up. (Battle Damage Assessment)

Basically Blk I = nukes, Blk II = conventional, Blk III = longer range, Blk IV = almost like a drone.

I still can't seem to re target the tactoms, even with a valid data-link. They always go after original target no matter what I try.

Has anyone been able to re-direct a blck iv tactom to a different target after launch?

Cheers!

I posted several questions about this feature as well. I thought in one of the earlier builds it was actually working but then stopped. Right around the update where they removed the ability to control TACTOM altitude and airspeed. Hopefully they'll get around to updating it to RW specs. I also hope they include munition TOT in the upcoming Advanced Strike Planner. Would love to perform a choreographed "shock and awe" attack with a combo of aircraft and cruise missiles! [:)]

Not at the moment. Need to figure out an intuitive user interface for this, so will be handled when Dimitris gets time.

Thanks [8D]
