Japan aircraft choice

Looking at my late 1942 choices, I wonder has anyone tried the Nick A as a day interceptor? I'm just getting Tojos and they are a nice jump up over the ACA2, but I think I have to build Nicks anyway, or the relevant air groups won't arrive, so I may as well think about optimum use for them.
They appear to have some characteristics better than the Tony, in firepower and toughness. They have 1 x 20mm cannon compared to the Tony's 2, but 4 x 12.7mm MG, compared to 2 for the Tony. Now both of these weapons are slightly less accurate than the ones on the Tony, but volume of fire must count for something. As I say, I plan to build some anyway, so will try them out, but has anyone tried this?

Nicks make nice targets for Corsairs, Thunderbolts, Lightnings, Hellcats, etc.

Great against unescorted Heavy bombers. Think of tem as a JU 88 with "Jazz Music"

I was thinking of putting wings on mine. Yes, work against unescorted bombers only.

It's cheaper if you don't add the wings. You don't have to pay for the engines then [:D] The end result will be pretty much the same anyway...
To be a bit more serious I wonder if you can use them in anything else than a nightfighting group. The options for those groups are not the same as for day groups. Daytime you only have the option of Airfield attack, Port attack, Sweep, Long range CAP and Training only.
Best regards

Sweep my own airfield perhaps, in the hope of running into enemy bombers? As you say, it would have the same effect.

Never tried but it might work. Otherwise you have Long Range CAP too. That works.
Sweep might not intercept incoming aircraft. A similar example is Long Range CAP over an enemy airbase which in my experience doesn't help out if you attack with other aircraft and the enemy has CAP. It's shown on the screen but I don't think it participates.
