Intel Bug

Intel is very messed up since the latest Beta patch.
This image shows a before and after Surrender comparison.
This is very typical of all the intel reports now, so no need for a save I think, unless you specifically need one for this image, in which case I will gladly provide it.
The old intel reports, with the misinformation they provided was spot on I thought.
I don't know if this change is accidental or intentional?
If its intentional then I preferred it the old way, and would like to know the opinions of the other guys on the forum as to what they think about it?
It shows A Coy 40 Tank Bn a large and powerful armoured unit engaged in very close proximity with Player controlled Axis infantry in a forest at night.
They have been engaged like this for over an hour now.
Even in a dark forest at night, I think it would be highly unlikely, they could mistake the Sherman's for infantry [;)]
On a side note: How the hell are they managing to survive in there? This is about as far from good tank terrain as it gets [:'(]

Update:
At D2 05:00 A Coy 40 Tank Bn surrendered in the forest [:)]
It took a long time to take the first casualty, but once it did, it went down quite quickly.

If I had to prioritize one of the features to fix it would definitely be this one.
For me its a real game killer, and I'm even thinking about rolling back my patch to a previous one.
At first you think its no big deal, just a minor thing, the game still plays ok the show must go on kind of thing.
But after a while I have found it makes the game really boring.
You no longer have the Rock, Paper, Scissor, type of game play you had before, where you put out recon patrols, and deploy your forces accordingly.
All that comes back now from a recon patrol, unless you get close enough to get excellent Intel is complete gobbledygook.
Armoured units and artillery being the main culprits.
So all the tactics you are left with is to aim a generic force at an objective and press play.
Some of you guys might argue that is the kind of Intel they had during WW2, but regardless my opinion is, the game was a lot more fun to play with the Intel we had before this last patch.

Funny thing is that we haven't been doing any changes on the Intel mechanics, Daz. For a really long time.
This kind of mis-identification is quite huge, but it happened in the middle of the night, it was snowing and that tank company was in a forest... not to mention that there was an infantry company nearby - which was in the process of being routed. Seems to me that the general idea is working as expected but there are some corner cases where it goes a bit out of hand.
Lieste and simovitch have been reporting a few weird issues with crazy mis-identification as well, but these have proved difficult to be replicated and confirmed.

Ok mate Ill try to help out as best I can, as I have got a bee in my bonnet about this one, and its top of my list.
Taking the image above as an example before I start to do write ups on others:
This is a large Armoured convoy 3 infantry Coy's have been engaged with at extremely close quarters now for about an hour.
It has been pushing its way into their positions moving west.
They are fatigued, but even with the routing infantry that they have no contact with at the moment, surely there can be no mistaking the rumble of tank tracks, the sounds of the engines, and the fact it has been launching 75mm HE rounds at them for a while now?
Not to mention the .50 cal MG's on the top.
I take it that when assessing Intel the game does not only take into account line of sight, but also sounds of vehicles, and the weapons systems, when giving a vague report?
I know a certain amount of stuff in game has to be abstracted, but even in a dark forest in a snow storm, I can't imagine how you can not identify at least some armour component in this circumstance.
Also look at the E&S list in the before.
There is only 1 gun listed in it. This would never have happened before the patch with an estimate of 221 personnel, because it would have listed their estimated personal weapons as well.

Funny thing is that we haven't been doing any changes on the Intel mechanics, Daz. For a really long time.
What about:
"Keep enemy units spotted for longer?"
"The ability to use terrain for cover depends now on crew training and experience?"
"Reworked targeting routines so "most threatening" targets are called first. This assessment depends on crew training, experience and fatigue?"
Could any of these have introduced something strange?

I did actually change one aspect of the intel system now that I recall. I'll take a look if you send me a save Daz, taken before the surrender.

Do you want me to keep going with more examples for this Dave, or do you have enough to go on now?

I stand corrected then - I couldn't recall anything done in that department recently.
"Keep enemy units spotted for longer?"
"The ability to use terrain for cover depends now on crew training and experience?"
"Reworked targeting routines so "most threatening" targets are called first. This assessment depends on crew training, experience and fatigue?"
These are all changes affecting firefights, Daz.

Let me know if you need more saves to work on with regard to this bug.

Daz,
Thanks for the saves. I found the bug. It was introduced by me last build when I made a change but failed to copy across an if test before the change. Consequently it was ignoring the more accurate estab and replacing it with the default estab of last choice, which is an infantry coy. My bad. Good catch and thanks.[&o]

Thanks Dave
So glad you have found this one.
At first it seems quite benign, but is in fact the worst bug ever.
For me at least.
Well done mate [:)]

There were also a lot of wrongly classified units as Engineers, have you crushed that one too?
