[FIXED B489] [488] Screen freezes, game goes on

Just downloaded Build 488, and I've run into a problem. I'll get to a point in the game, usually at a moment when a unit is making an attack, and the screen freezes and gets a milky-white color to it, but the game goes on (I can hear jets taking off, the "new contact" ding! noise, etc.)

The game never recovers once this happens and I have to use the Task Manager to end the game process and restart.

I have not had this happen yet with other scenarios besides "Randolph's Racket," but I don't know if that is just luck or not.

I did upgrade the scenario to the newest version of the database (CWDB 404, I think); I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help, etc. you can offer.

Here is an autosave from the scenario where it happens...

It happened with another scenario, Lobster War. (I had not upgraded this file to the newest database yet, but will do so and try it out and see what happens.)

Here is an autosave file for that one...

Upgrading Lobster War to the newest version of the database did not help. It froze again, same symptoms as before.

Grrrr!

I know you will fix it eventually, but....Grrrr! :)

AndrewJ, sorry to hear that. I'm trying out my standard "brute force" solution--reinstall the whole game--and I'll see if that works (i.e., maybe the issue is the game somehow got corrupted on my drive, although if you're having the same problem, it sounds like that won't work, either.) Oh well, almost done now downloading the v1.02 update again at this point, so we'll see what happens...

I had this problem with B487, and reported it. I am not certain but when I reloaded it through the reload scenario button the game had advanced a little from the crash time. Unfortunately the game kept crashing after that.

Full uninstall and reinstall did not help. I was able to roll back to Build 484 and that seems to be working all right--this also worked when I had problems with Build 486. I guess I'll just have to live with that until someone figures out why the freezes are taking place. Oh well; I will survive. :)

Similar things happening to me.

Here is autosave. Sad to say, but my favourite scenario is now unplayable... [:(]

I'm finding I can "roll back" to Build 484 by just copying the files over. So far, it seems to be working; 484 seems to be very stable; the only issue is I'm stuck with some of the minor bugs fixed in later builds. I figure the next Public Beta will be out in a week or so, though, and with any luck the problem will be fixed by then. I can definitely survive with 484 for a couple of weeks if I have to.

I too was able to "roll back" to 486, copied and pasted the B404 version of the DB3K and my scenario folder and I'm playing again. I'll live till the issue is fixed in 489, but I'm going to be a little leery about installing updates in the future... [;)]

It seems you have plenty of saves, I'll just note that Advanced ASW Exercise -1979 crashes now. Before this I've
had almost zero crashes in any scenario...And I've played that one plenty of times previous. One of my units had
just located a sub, and boom! I can even restart, use the autosave, and it will crash again.

Thanks,

Kevin
