OK, I think this definitely qualifies as a bug even if I don't really need any help. I just thought someone should know. As I've been examining this game, and trying to figure out some wacky moves, I came up with one that the program definitely did not anticipate. I figured if I wanted Italy to be able to do something besides a combined move, they'd have to declare war on a major power. Not wanting to get tied down in the French Alps or get my fleet mopped up by the Royal Navy, I figured what the hell, what could China possibly do to me? They are a major power and declaring war on them will get Italy her reserves and access to all possible moves without getting bogged down in Germany's little war. China can't attack Italy so just ignore them till there is a New Roman World Empire and they're forced to give up rice in favor of spaghetti! Well after the DOW, the game asked me if I wanted to align China to Germany and if I didn't they would surrender, you know, like a minor power. The next Japanese move I find all the units there are out of supply so I looked around and found that all of Japanese occupied China was now in the hands of the Nationalists, the flags had changed. So what do you guys make of that one?

I just went back to the auto save for the axis DOW phase. This time Italy declared war on China and, this time, instead of aligning China to Germany as I was asked too, I chose no instead and China surrendered to Italy. Just like a minor power would do in the rules.

I think this is the bug Zartacla reported earlier (Australia wants to align to the axis in his case). That bug is repaired in the current beta version, which should be released at the earliest coming Monday. When time permits I will test DoWing China with Italy today to see what is happening without that bug.

Just tested declaring war on China by Italy in the 3rd impulse of the first turn of Global War.
After having to accept picking the 5 or 6 US entry chits it worked fine in the beta version of the release coming soon. I don't know if those chits are in the balance of what you want to achieve by doing this, however.
Edited for more clarity

So a patch for this will be coming soon is what you're saying? Even as early as next week. I'll keep my eye out, thanks.

As a side note I want to mention that if Italy declare war on China then you are right that China can't do anything to hurt Italy. But USA can and they will enter the war a lot earlier if Italy DOW China. And that is a hefty cost for getting the reserves early.

Yes, you are clearly a "gamer", but you seem to be unaware of many of the rule intricacies in WiF. (FREX: FTC, US Entry) There are definitely repercussions to your gambit which are not worth the gains you think you are achieving.
The first sentence above is not meant to be insulting to you, gamers do stuff like this, it's part of gaming and a credit to your "out-of-the-box" thinking. But there are a lot of rules in WiF...

It's what I like to call "pushing buttons and pulling levers". That's how gamers figure new games out.
I'm having a lot of trouble defending China against aggressive Japanese play, so I'm experimenting now with letting the Japanese win but drawing the entire Japanese army deep into the Chinese interior, away from the rail lines, so that when China falls (or surrenders) they are stuck there without enough time to get home before war with the US. Either Japan has to move slowly with combined moves, or declare on Russia (another entry hit, plus freeing up Russia to do land moves).

Tried having Italy DoW China in a solo game. 3 times it came out with USE chits being picked and game continuing. 6 chits is a pretty hefty price to be paid.
Might have to try Germany and Italy DoW China together next.
