Infantry vs. Cav

I was wondering if it is normal for infantry units to not fire at enemy cavalry when in range to do so. I fought a sandbox game today as the Union and I had Confederate Cav less than 100 yards away, in front of all my infantry....and nothing. Nobody fired and the cav just sat there staring at my men. I was commanding as the Corps commander and tried everything to get my men to shoot, but they would not. My artillery which was set up wouldn't even shoot at them.

I tried TC option to get my regimetns to shoot...nothing. I issued orders to all my division commanders to "attack" and "attack at costs" and they stood there and did nothing. So I ended up TCing a regiment and gave them the "charge" order. That worked fine...they charged the cav and engaged in melee, and got torn up badly....but I wanted to see if it worked.

Is this a game bug or am I doing something wrong here?

Army and sometimes even large Corps level battles in sandbox play can overwhelm the AI's ability to function properly. As long as SOW remains backward compatible to 32 bit systems this issue will be present as only 1.8 GB of RAM can be allocated per play. Try scaling back your troop numbers some, or, TC your upper level commanders, this takes a strain off the AI cycles and generally helps performance.

Thanks for your report, our next generation engine should address this concern.

Ok that makes sense to me. Thank you for the prompt reply and I look forward to an updated game engine which can support more actions on the battlefield.
