BEF & Cooperating with France

How do you get the French and Brits to cooperate after they declare war on Germany? Landing the BEF is problematic if they don't cooperate and I'm having trouble understanding the Foreign Troop Commitment rule.

France and the CW do not co-operate. What is troubling you about the FTC rule perhaps we can help?

The French will only cooperate once France has fallen.

Until then you have to put HQs into France first and for each re-organization point of HQ you put in you can put in one additional unit. Keep in mind that ships and planes count against this limit.

This means that if you send Gort you can have two other units with him inside France.

So I go to move some British land units into Calais to help defend the Franco-Belgian border. Can't do it. Since I don't like throwing troops away, not that big of a deal. But it seemed strange that they don't cooperate and wondered how I would land them (suspecting it has something to do with the hard to fathom FTC rule).

Why is it strange that Britain and France don't co- operate given what happened in reality?

As per post 3 you just need to land your HQ first - and then ensure that you have no more units in total than that HQ's Re-org value in the country.

If you play the board game along with Days of Decision, there is a costly option to make them collaborate, along with another costly one to make the Maginot line the whole border with Belgium throwing the Belgae in the Axis camp [:)]

Sorry for disgressing.

Michel.

Yes, I fell into that one when I tried to land additional land units in France and found they wouldn't disembark. The Spitfires I had rebased there earlier had squeezed them out.

Only Free French co-operate with the CW.

If Free France is not created any remaining French units will not co-operate with the CW.

This can occur if France is incompleatly conqured or surrenders.

Except when France is liberated by the CW...

Okay. So the HQ has to land first followed by a number of units equal to it's re-org rating. Thanks!

And don't forget once you have used your HQ to allow units to land, you can remove the HQ itself without any restrictions.

If you that HQ's (Gort) re-organization points to reorganize another unit in the meantime does that draw down the limit too?

With DOD3 a L3 treaty brings cooperation. There is no such card anymore.

No. It doesn't change the number of units you can have in country.
