Turnaround? Lowpe (J) vs Tiemanj (A) Stock

I am picking up the pieces from a dropped game where the Allies are doing quite well. This is a scenario 6 game, not beta yet, but will be shortly.

The bad news: It is July 23, 1942 and the Allies have Manila, Java, and just took Tarawa. There is basically no defenses in the North Pacific and the Central Pacific.

The oil in the DEI is open to strategic bombing with no defenses. But on the good news front, the Vietnam militia have activated and I have several squadrons of Jeans on the front lines and most air units have between 20 and 50 morale.

The following screens will show you how bad things are...any advice greatly appreciated as I have very little experience with some of these settings.

So strap yourself in as Tiemanj is going for the throat!

The big picture...air losses are really high as the previous Japanese High command had all planes flying at max range with strange settings designed to increase fatigue to abnormally high levels. What a slave driver he was....

Plane production is quite rational however and soon the skies will be full of Rufes. <ugh>.

But hey, look at those tanks rolling off the assembly line....what numbers! And the merchant pool is quite big too.

So, overall the economy is quite rosy.

I would say get your economy under control and then pick your MLRs. The DEI is still a long ways away from his reinforcement centers, while closer to yours, and is probably still be worth taking Java, if you can.

Realistic R&D is off so you can change these to research the A6M5.

Likewise, rather than discarding the huge investment in A6M2 factories you can push them through the Sen Buku to research the A6M8.

Realistic R&D off may give you other opportunities: working on the D5Y1, G4M3a, Ki-43-IV that are usually not that easy and can, maybe, push the Ki-44-IIc forward.

Otherwise, priorities seem to me to be:
1. Sort economy,
2. Take Java
3. Take Manila
4. Build defenses
5. Take China

Any HRs or can you flatten Chinese industry, once your air force is fixed?

Speaking of R&D here is the major focus. It seems rather haphazard, but you can draw your own conclusions:

There are some house rules: no xakl pickets, no 4E naval bombing low, and no bombing china strategically.

Thanks for the advice, I have no experience with unrealistic r&d.

While we are on planes, let's look at the pilot situation. I have enhanced Traccom with everybody I can find that makes the grade (it was at 20 pilots previously).

I have two A6M3 Squadrons. The elite right? These guys are on the front lines fighting over Java.

Looks to me like Southern Army does not have 20,000 supplies, wherever it is located.

Southern Army is in Oosthaven with the A6M3 and the remnants of a crushed attack on Merak. It probably didn't help that their minds were still on Singapore.

There is 12,000 supply in Oosthaven, and a scant 3000 in Palembung. But lots of oil.

Playing a dropped game is like eating a box of candy....you never really know what you are going to get.

This little gem was in the first turn I got to watch...the brave 4ID is attacking out of a beach head in Java (which btw, have level four forts).

It's time to go back and get a bigger stick.

The subsequent counter attack was only a bombardment, but then the following day...No Joy for the 4th...

The Remnants of the 4th. They took a little morale hit...in the background you can see the major air base, Toboali (lvl 6) with no supply and no fuel, but plenty of resources.

It is no wonder the 200 plus pilots there have no morale.
