The Join Fleet->(New Fleet) option has recently vanished from my right click context menu! I've got twenty three fleets in operation right now; is this a bug, or is there a limit to the number of fleets I can have? Is there any other way to create a new fleet, other than by right clicking? (I have all expansions installed and I'm patched to 1.9.0.13)

Oh, and one more question: are Torpedo Bombers worth researching? I've got Fighters researched up to the maximum level, and looking at the numbers, it appears like top-tier fighters do more DPS than top-tier torpedo bombers. Is there some other benefit for torpedo bombers? Like, do they get a bonus to hit or something?

About the fleets i don't know. Never used more then 5-8 fleets myself.

About the bombers, both bomber types got prolly less DPS then the fighters but
- bombers only attack ships/stations and not other fighters
- bombers got a larger weapon range then fighters to stay out of point defence weapons range.

Hmmm, yeah, I'm only really "using" four or five of those fleets as player-controlled combat elements; the rest are regional defense forces set on auto-pilot defensive patrols. A few of my fleets are troop transport flotillas; I could get rid of those, if there's some way to "bookmark" individual troop ships? Transports only seem to appear under the Military Vessels tab, which means they get lost in a sea of non-fleet Escorts and Frigates. I want some way to keep at least three independent Transport sections within easy clicking distance at all times...

You can hotkey anything, from planets to ship to fleets.
Just like at the most games CTRL-number(1 to 0) to set it, and then press the number to set it as target, another time to center it.

I have 28 fleets in one game right now, so I don't think that you've hit the limit if there is one. I usually assign ships to fleets using the "Ships & Bases" screen F11. From there, filter military, sort as needed (usually by role or by fleet), shift or control-click to highlight the vessels desired, and use the drop-down menu in the proximal lower-right (next to 'View Fleet' button) to assign selection to fleet.

I don't know why your right-click option has vanished; maybe your selected ships need to first "Leave (Fleet)" before being assigned a new fleet?

This has been a 'feature' since the original game IIRC. Once you reach a limit you no longer get the option to create new fleets by right-click, but the F11 option still works.
