Game Save Problem

Every time I open a new game without rebooting my computer, my computer won't let me overwrite the save file (001 in PBEM). Same with the turn file as well when downloading from an email. having to reboot everytime is reducing my enjoyment. Is there any way to just allow the game to overwrite the file without having to reboot?

Thanks

Paul

That sounds like what can happen if the game gets installed in one of the Windows "Programs..." folders. Try installing the game either in C:\ or some sub folder of your choosing, but not a "Programs..." or "Windows" folder.

The WITP Folder is located in the Matrix Games Folder which is located on the C:\ drive

Really could use some more information. Any error messages? What operating system?

Not promising an answer, but I can imagine a few scenarios (for example, this has all the appearance of the file already being open, although that really makes no sense).

Using Windows 7, error message is Unable to open save file

When trying to delete the file in my WITP Saved folder it says I need administrator authority to delete the file

Same kind of thing is happening to me. Also using Win 7, latest beta (11.23v). I have been unable to save turn files without Administrator's permission, and I am the administrator.

Sorry, my availability is sometimes limited. I'm a tax accountant, so you know what this time of year is like!

Is the game installed under C:\Program Files? I guess that's a known problem on Windows 7 (because Windows tries too hard to protect users from themselves -- full description of the problem is lengthy). I never install anything there, myself, so I'm not speaking from experience (I have a P: drive for all my programs; I'm old-school).

apologize if I sounded snippy, I totally understand about RL getting in the way of the fun stuff.

the matrix games folder is saved on the local disk c:\ drive

Hi Paul - I had a similar problem but I think I may have resolved the issue. When I receive a PBEM turn via gmail, I first download the file to my Downloads folder, then copy it to my game folder. If I keep gmail open when I copy to the game folder I get the file save error. If, however, if I close gmail before copying the file, the error does not occur and all is well. Hopefully, this will resolve your problems as well.

Good luck, Paul
