Just wanted to cheer you two on. A hills map, not a tiered plateau map like the one for mushroom, is what the map collection needs most.
Please keep us posted on your progress.

I'm also work on a map with hills. Is the map3 of ASL combined with the map5.At the moment i have finished the map5.When also the map3 is finished i must start with the challenge of the polygon and los. Then the scenario.
Is a lot of work.

Sounds good, I'm working on ASL map2 (that's why I need hills).
this is the left side of map2 (and the hills samples from Barthheart)

Frankly speaking i prefer the first in post 6.I must do an experiment because i have modified the grain field applying the embossing function.
Anyway the best seem the hill in post 6.

I expect that Marc Schwanbeck made some of these maps. I'd look at unpacking some of the Close Combat maps from any of the titles. Marc did some of that work as well- the art will match, and there will be lots and lots of house types, roads, etc that could be used for reference. There used to be whole pages on CC art resources. Alas, many lost to time.

in my opinion are good these hills. The only thing to decide is the color .

Those look nice!. I would try and make the edges of the hills as close out to the hex boundaries as possible - the LOS for ground levels is by whole hex.

Great work. Only problem for me is I cannot figure out which were level 2 hill hexes. Is it the darker or lighter color?
And in the top right-hand corner, the dark color on the hexsides confuse me.
It could just be me.

Another method, experimented yesterday evening,is to cut off the pieces of map with the lasso then, applying the embossing, you can have a good hill.
