Has anybody managed to get access to the higher levels of Chariot upgrade e.g. spiked chariots? How are these unlocked?

I managed to get mine pretty early on (two bolts and two hammers), not sure how I managed to get them- I'm playing the purple faction. It's the horses that have been eluding me so far.

I think it depends on which city your in. Some cities offer those spiked chariots, some don't. I don't think that every chariot model or quality horse team is available in every single city.

OK Manticore. But out of curiosity in my 150 race campaign I have travelled all over the empire and no sign of a spiked chariot Must stay on the road and keep looking

I think the Circus Maximus offers spiked wheels, and of course only the top cities are going to have the real goodies.

It depends on your chosen faction. If you are playing a faction with no starting chariot upgrades (like the Russata) it will be almost impossible to find a full developed chariot.

Ah, another great design decision. Each Faction is basically a very different style of racing.
Another great design decision - you can't see the whole course at any one time just hear the crowd cheering at events either very far ahead or very far behind.

Hmm...this makes sense. I just finished a campaign as the "red" faction (sorry...not in front of my game now) and never saw the 2 x 2 upgrade for horses. I am now playing a campaign as the "white" faction, and the town in Spain with thoroughbreds has offered me the fully upgraded horses for sale a few times (at a whopping 32,000 D!).
