facing issue

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

facing issue

Post by Phoenix100 »

This might be a point/suggestion for CO2, Dave. I don't think it's an issue, but if you could clarify I'd be grateful. I'm playing through From the Meuse to the Rhine and the on-map boss's load max is 30. But the defensive situation is so strung out (so much space to cover) that it is a VERY common situation (the norm, in fact) that I have to individually place companies to cover intersections in far wider formations than the button choices allow. So, I place all the companies where I want them to cover as many possible gaps as possible, let them get into position with my carefully chosen facings, then I select them all individually, plus the HQ unit and issue a new defend order to all of them, with 'in-situ' checked. I have to do this or the command load goes sky-high, way above the 30 limit. But when I give this group defend in-situ order to bring all the companies back into the command of their HQ then the facing box still appears. So I set it, but then what happens is that ALL the individual unit facings are set to that facing, not just the HQ, which often results in the facings for widely placed companies being very wrong. It's a bugger. I assume it's working as intended, and that the 'in-situ' option doesn't cover individual facings? But surely it should?

A couple of pics to illustrate.

So setting the Defend in-situ order for the group of units you see here produces the facing box, which I set roughly as you see, because I want the eastern approaches to the DZ covered as well.

But doing this results in all the units having this facing, as below. But I had individually set each unit so that it was ideally facing, given it's position blocking a road etc.

Assuming this is working as intended then imho we would need a 'maintain facing' option when selecting 'in-situ'. Or change the effect of selecting 'in-situ' so that when this is selected the individually selected facings are automatically maintained. Again, assuming this isn't how it's meant to work in the first place....

Fair enough. I'll look into this for Cmd Ops 2.

Thanks for bringing this up Peter.
I have often ran into the same problem.

Thanks Dave for the cooperative response [:)]
