New Scenario: Operation Urgent Fury (1984)

Increasing influence by the Soviets over Nicaragua has drove the US to great lengths to prevent WWIII. In learning that the Soviets were building a TU-22 bomber base in the northern half of the country the Pentagon only dirived at two very viable scenarios; the Soviets were going to sieze control the Panama Canal or were going to strike nearly anywhere in the US. Neither was going to be acceptable by Washington.

The US, not wanting to be directly involved in any plot to disrupt the building of the base, encouraged Panama to carry out a mission to ensure that the base would not be built in order to prevent the Soviets from entering the Canal Zone.

After two high level Soviet military leaders are assasinated in Nicaragua, the Soviets publically place all blame on Honduran rebels leading the US in believing that the operation was a complete success...

until 24 hours ago.

Scenario Designer Notes

My goal for this scenario was to make a good cat and mouse game, kind of a Kasparov vs. Karpov chess match. It was not designed to be a Tyson vs. Holyfield heavyweight fight. The player will actually loose points by firing weapons.

The Soviet side objective is to move the Yankee II submarine armed with ICBM's into range of Washington D.C. and fire their salvo onto the US Captial. The US is to locate the Yankee II class submarine and sink her with minimal weapons. Essentially, a search and destroy mission with minimal damage to the other Soviet ships.

Tried as USSR side but I think the ROE is set so the Nuclear weapons can't be fired?
Effectively I couldn't complete the mission, although all opposing forces were wiped out.

Must admit the Slava being in that position struck me as strange, especially on its own?
Did also wonder about there being no helicopters, if intended to not have any available perhaps have them as unavailable?
