Invading Norway by Sea??

Am playing as GER and its spring 1940.

I can see how sea invasions work and can invade if i have transports in Skagerak but don't seem to be able to invade through Kattegat - not sure what i am doing wrong here :(
====> i have 2 trans in Kat and 1 in Baltic and try moving 1 inf from East Ger (and invaded Denmark earlier in the turn) - when i go through Skag (which works) i use all 3 transports and move inf from West Ger

If Skag is the only way to do it i assume all my fleet is going to get sunk by the Royal Navy? Any way to avoid this?

Many thanks

EDIT : am more confused - it seems my sea invasion of Norway only worked after the Paras took the country - so it was really only strategic movement by sea. Is it actually possible to do an amphibious assult on Norway?

thanks again

To make an amphibious assault you need transports that have at least five landing and five strategic points left. Germany transports have a landing capacity of four iirc so you need two transports per area, making it a total of four TF if you attack from E. Germany.

Remember you can't amphibiously land in Winter.
