Hi, I asked this question about Norway and F-35's and was told it was not added to other countries unless there was some difference to it compared to the US model. If the Italian model doesn't have some different specs than the US model it isn't added under the Italian units. You are supposed to add the US version to the Italian forces. And as far as I know all partner countries gets the exact same planes as the US.

Thats why its not in the Italian units list. Thats what I was told.

The internal missile are the same for all i think, (AIM-9X and AMRAAM-120D), but the esternal missile is different. For example: Meteor for long range (UK/Italy), ASRAAM-132 or IRIS-T (Uk/Italy) for short range , and AGM-88B HARM (UK) or AGM-88E AARGM (US/Italy) for SEAD missile. Perhaps a small thing, but this is COMMAND!![:'(]

Eventually there might have to be different sets of F-35's because of the different missile systems employed by various countries.

Man, these things could carry a crap ton of Brimstones.

Then there's the Joint Strike Missile options, it fits inside the bays!!

Quite a few future choices for various countries using the JSF

We'll add separate entries for all F-35 users but are lacking details on IOC dates, weapons fits, etc. If you have more info that allows us to implement the Italian version accurately then please post up an we'll add it. The Norwegian version was added a couple of months back, and the Turkish version a little earlier.

Thanks!

Just some more details on planned UK F-35 weapons.

Initial air-surface weapon of choice will be Paveway IV, with Storm Shadow planned.

Beyond that the UK air-surface munitions are a requirement/programme called SPEAR (Selective Precision effects At Range)

This comes in a couple of flavours

SPEAR CAP 1 - PIV evolution with a low collateral and a penetrator warhead options using the same 500lb bomb,

SPEAR Cap 3 (a long range (100km) DMB Brimstone style weapon - with 8 able to be carried internally) (can't post link but google MBDA + SPEAr for a Flight Global article)

Is this belt tightening or actual complaints about capability vs cost? I know Italy has had a hard time financially, but it has also seen increased threats to the south(although they seem to be the kind some p-8's would be better equipped to handle) and the increased activity in eastern Europe. I guess one question is if they are planning on reducing the overall size of their force, or if they are going to have a mixed force?

Probably a fiscal decision helped along by the bad press.

Italy leased F-16's up until recently so maybe they view that as a possible option if the need ever arises or maybe investing more in Typhoon. Its a buyers market these days.
