There is nothing worse than seeing one of the greatest fighters of WWII reduced to hauling around 500 pounds of iron and not being able scrap it out with the Axis fighters like it was intended. So if you wish this outrageous situation to be corrected this is how it is done.
Please make sure you back up your original files first.
Open up the DB editor.
I copied the Spitfire VB and VC (aircraft #325 and 326) in to the blank aircraft#411 and 412 rows.
On 325 and 326 I edited out the bombs.
411 and 412 I edited out the drop tanks.
You do this by highlighting the particular aircraft so that it appears at the top of the page, and then editing the id box in the upper left. Make sure to delete all relevant information.
If you look on row 26 column S you will see the heading ExtraVers2, for 325 put in 411, for 326, put in 412. Make sure you do this on the proper row, I don't mean put it in on row 26, I mean on the line for 325/6. Not trying to be condescending, just clear.
Column T has the heading Normal Vers, for 411 put in 325 and for 412 put in 326.
Save BTR43! You now have two Spitfires that you can alternate their payloads.
If this in not clear, let me know and I will do up some graphics so it is clearer.
If you think about it, this opens up a lot of possibilities[:)]

Typhoon now has an optional payload. I think this is something a lot of people may have wanted. I can't do anything about the "Drop Tanks" in the caption, but it does switch between bombs and rockets. The bomb carrying Typhoon is now aircraft #401.

Almost forgot. You have to go in to the device tab in the editor and revise the range of the 60 LB Rocket. Change the range from 1 to 10. Device 78 not 29. 29 is the Fritz-X remote controlled rocket.

It is nice that there is a way to change this but if there are really open slots available there are better things to use them on.
Testing long ago showed that there was no penalty for bombs on the fighter (as opposed to Fighter-bomber) versions and were necessary to allow ground attack with them as the guns do not fire in the ground attack mission against troops or rail yards.
I like the rocket armed Tiffy. I would like to see the same for the P47 but don't know how you could do it as there is already an alternative load-out for it.
If you can make something work how about sending me a scenario file with a list of all changes and I will run it through the mill and see how it works.
Why is it necessary to change the rocket range?

Suggestions?

Wellll, you could ditch the bomb carrying P-47 and have it carry rockets instead ORRRRRRRRR you could make a rocket carrying alternative for SOME of your squadrons. BUT you would have to make a different base P-47 for them and use the rocket carrying P-47 as their alternative. A lot of fooling around, but do-able. In summary you would some P-47/P-47 bomb squadrons and P-47/P-47 rocket squadrons.

I have been using the 44 campaign as my test bed, but I will be more than happy to send it to you with all of the changes (once I have satisfied my inner tinkering being). It would be interesting to see how it reacts on someone else's computer.
Why is it necessary to change the rocket range?
One only gave them a range of 500 feet. 10 is a little more like it. One other thing to note about this weapon, in the editor under anti-device, the Panzer IV is listed. Should be great fun going after those armoured divisions once D-Day rolls around.[:D]
