A key moment of the battles around Nijmegen was the assault crossing of the Waal river by US paratroopers in canvas boats.
Is this possible in this game, please?

This capability is missing from the game engine.
There has been discussion in this forum about the game developers providing expanded transport operations, possibly to include seaborne / river crossing movement, as part of the Command Ops2 engine.
The enhancement would start with dismounted operations which would allow a leg infantry unit to "catch a ride" on a mechanized or dedicated transport unit before dismounting to fight independently while the transport unit pursues a separate mission.
It would be a relatively small step to creating transport units which would use water routes (landing craft, river craft, rafts) or perhaps fly (helicopters) to support an expansion of the game's combat operations.

thanks Jim,
I've just come back from touring the Market Garden battlefields and couldn't see how the Waal crossing could be simulated from what I've seen of the BftB engine.

Hi Paul. While we wait on CO2 you could add a closely bunched group of ferry crossings to simulate the assault boats.
I did this for a Soviet River crossing in one of my scenarios. The German AI defending the riverbank have never tried the crossings as they have nearby objectives to defend. You could structure the AI in your scenario to do the same.
It's not as neat as the changes Jim referenced but it gets the job done for now.
