Help w/Custer's 1st Stand

I'm having a hard time with the cavalry scenarios in general, but this one in particular.
I have few dismounted troops seemingly scattered everywhere, but where I need them; I have arty assets that remain limbered until half way or more into a 30 minute scenario, and the only mounted troops I see I can't touch.
So what is my strategy, or doesn't Custer live to die at the Little Big Horn?--
