DB issue

I control Ndeni as the allied. There is no damage to the field I have a good commander, and plenty of supply, yet the Japanese player can sail up to NDedi and attack with out any resistance by my DB group. I also have 60 plus mines that he has avoided after almost 10 attacks. I find this to be a consistent frustration that in many games the computer player can sail within range of able groups with out any problem.

Try escorting them.

Also, do they have Naval Bombing skill?

If the raiding force has carriers supplying its own CAP unescorted bombers are usually not going to fly against them.

If the raiding group is getting LRCAP from a remote source (carrier or land based) then unescorted bombers are usually not going to fly against them.

The tactical AI gages the CAP to escort ration in deciding whether your squadrons will fly. Sometimes hair-brained squadron commanders fly anyway and you lose droves of bombers.

You may not have sufficient escort to offset his CAP and make your squads fly. Also take a look at the aggressiveness of the squadron commander.

Its just two unescorted CA's and as I stated I have a SQ of wildcats on site also for escort

Are they stopping in range of your bombers or making high speed runs in and out of your range?

What is the size of the air base? It has to be 2+ to fly offensive missions.

Early in the execution of each game-turn, the game-engine makes a determination of local (regional?) 'air superiority'. IME, this often prevents LBA airgroups from flying NavB missions - even when conditions are optimal (weather, airgroup stats, detection-level, &c). The groups won't fly if the game-engine determines that they're faced w/ annihilation. The only answer is to bring in supply & engrs to build supporting airbases, then bring in add'l AV support & Fighter groups to tip the air-superiority balance in your favor.

Are you doing any naval search around the base? The planes are not going to fly any strikes if they have no clue where the enemy is.

the air base is fine and I can spot the ships just out side of attack range

Put the BD squadron on 10 or 20% search. See if they help with locating the TF for the rest of the Aircraft...GP

Yes, but as GP pointed out sometimes the squadrons want one of their own to have spotted something before they will fly.

I won't set any squadron to Nav attack without at least having 10% self search, even if I have full squadrons of dedicated NAV search planes at the same base.

You replied that the base is fine, but didn't confirm that it is at least level 2.

If the base is only level 1 you will never see an offensive air mission fly from it.

its level 2 plus. An example is that I have 70 or so mines with a tender in harbor and yet despite 20 to 30 mission to bombard the harbor he has yet to hit a mine. he dropped a few mines in harbor and I hit one the first turn.

In my experience mines do no damage once the enemy has "spotted" the minefield. To defend against bombardments use your own ships.

His CAs can move in at full speed during the night from outside your DB range and then be back outside again by daybreak. Are you sure thats not what is happening?.

Are you flying Vengeances or Dauntless/Helldivers out of that base? It's been my experience that Vengeances almost never do naval bombing. They are Army dive bombers. You need Jarhead or Navy DBs to regularly attack naval units.

I've found Vengences will attack naval targets, but then I train them for Naval bombing. A-24s make a good stop gap land based dive bomber during the time the USN is hogging all the SBDs and the Marines have few dive bombers. I've had A-24s pummel the Japanese AI on many occasions.

How is morale of your squadron? Often when enemy ships bombard a base the morale drops to low values and this prevents them from flying

Steverodgers80, is your airfield damaged?

Airfield level 2 that has 30% damage will stop any offensive missions from flying.

Level 3 = 35%
Level 4 = 40%
Level 5 =45%

etc.

Do you have enough engineers at the base to repair the airfield?

EDIT: I see you said airfield is not damaged. Keep looking.
