Started up a new game and while looking around my home system before unpauseing I seen an abandoned base in the asteroid field. Figured it was like the abandoned colony ship I found in the previous game and sent one of my explorers out to... explore it. I didn't get an event pop up though and couldn't figure out how to take it over. So there is my question for this post, how do I claim and take over an abandoned base?

Could be damaged, you may need to repair it first.

It's probably damaged, so you will need to repair it. If you have a construction ship, select it and them hover the cursor over the base. If it turns to a hammer then it's repairable.

Cool! Thanks, going to check that out and see. Considering I'm starting my Empire as a prewarp one, this is a HUGE boost to my strength because it's probably armed and I can tell it's got shields.
