Probably the 4th or 5th time I've played this one. So much easier with Prosecution Areas now available. The low cloud was also challenging but still was able to hit targets with the help of EA-6s and buddy lasing provided by an aircraft below the cloud. I look forward to playing this one again when strike planning is more automated.

How'd you lose your planes, especially the JSTARS? Were most of the losses (save for the U-2s) from long-ranged SAMs or low-altitude defenses?

The 2 x U2s were lost to SAMs, probably the SA-10s. When I'd played this scenario in the past, the U-2s were basically invulnerable which is why I didn't pay close attention to these units this time around. Everything else was lost to MiG-29s party due to lack of attention on my part and also due to a potential minor minor bug where OCA aircraft close to the hostiles will not shoot (again) and continue to close with the hostiles but more distant OCA aircraft on the same mission will shoot their AAMs instead.

The JSTARs just got too close to the action and was hit by a MiG-29 (my fault).

Interestingly aircraft taking off Zagreb which is classified civilian. Might be airliners though.

Firt Tomcats engaging MiGs south of Pristina
Fishbed trying to attack the U2... hehe.

Southern AAW patrol ended up insufficient, so that Fishbed came close to Washington CVBG, SAMs engaging.

TLAMs failed to destroy Nis runway, launching 48x more, same thing on Batajnica, launching 45x more TLAMs per runway. Should have probably targeted access points though. While second wave of TLAMs is in flight, sending HARM shooters forward for SAMs


TLAM strike destroyed Nis runway. So estimate 80 TLAMs should be fired per runway. Not a best way to spend missiles maybe. Access points might have been cheaper.

TLAM strike finally destroyed Batajnica runways. So, supposedly enemy does not have any serviceable runways and no enemy aircraft can take off.

Will eventually dissolve AAW patrols as enemy aircraft are either shot down or out of fuel.

Lost U2 to SAMs due to management error, probably I did task U2 to engage ground targets, so it drifted down to maybe 25000 feet and was shot down by SAM.


Hit the tanker (Commercial Tanker General Purpose 20,000 t DWT), with 4x Harpoons in total, and maybe couple Exocets, all with no effect.

Had Ticonderoga engage buildings at Budva with guns, evenually destroying all buildings and 2x infantry.

At 1d15h to go, starting second series SEAD strikes.

Loadout adjstments as follows:

1. Moar HARMs
2. On Hornets, replace all bombs with SLAMs
3. On Tomcats, load bombs to half of the planes, the other half still on AAW patrol.

Cannot make F-117As drop bombs. RTB and switch loadout to Mavericks. On the second thought, Maverick IRs will not attack structures, so I will make do without F-117. This is probably low clouds do not allow for lasing targets.

at about 1d 7h to go, found P821 submarine. However, interestingly, no ASW assets were readily available. Send helos. not sure about range. Also tasked Ticonderoga to engage.

On returning Hornets, change SLAM loadouts to Walleye because no more SAM threat exists and long range not needed. Wherever Walleyes are not available, change to LDGP bombs.

Overall, after the runways are hit, the game becomes one of strike asset management, looping through

1. assign targets
2. watch aircraft return
3. adjust loadouts
4. wait till ready
rinse, repeat


Managed to destroy all red units on map with 11 hours 20 minutes still to go

All aircraft losses are to fuel management, except 1x U2 (to SAMs).
