Just wondering but how much real time is a single turn in SPWAW worth?

ie: 1 turn = 5 seconds, etc...

IIRC, 1 turn = 1-2 minutes of real time combat.

Ah okay then. Thanks.

Hmmmm....guess it would be somewhat reasonable then to use the savegame editor to extend the duration of a game then in order to allow one to inflict considerable casualties on the enemy AI since that would mean an average 30 to 39 turn game means that the match would only last from 30 to 39 "real" minutes. Hardly enough of a delay to allow for any major enemy reinforcements to come in or for the battle to be considered a stalemate. :D

I have always thought that generated battles were too few turns for slow, cautious play.... my vote would go for increasing the number of turns and using a custom map.

A short battle requires feckless (I love that word) advance and it also will favor the side with the best armor and high-tech assets.

Good luck!

From the manual. Each turn is "a few minutes". I am guessing 2-5 minutes per turn.

Scale
Each terrain tile in the game (called a hex) is 50 meters or about 50 yards across, and each turn
represents a few minutes. The scale can be changed from hexes to meters to yards by using the
@ key. All movement rates, sighting routines, command and control ranges, communications
ranges, weapon ranges and unit frontages have been adjusted accordingly. Units are individual
vehicles and heavy guns, small groups of light mortars, and teams or squads of infantry and
heavy weapons from 2-20 men strong. Shots by units typically represent individual rounds or
small shot groups for tanks and artillery, and bursts of 5-10 rounds for small arms and automatic
heavy weapons.

Hmm, I agree that battles are too short. Flanking manouvers are impossible to pull off adequately if your force isn't fast. A bit slowing due to weather and the flanking force isn't even able to reach the designated objective, even without being fired upon. And slower I mean say trucks off-road.

Way too short, especially considering the average skirmish back in WW2 tended to last for hours at the very least.

I tried editing a campaign battle I was fighting using foot infantry with the savegame editor to give myself considerably more time but for some strange reason the built in savegame editor also screws up my campaign totals, overall campaign score and the number of battles fought.

I'll probably try again using a program like gamehack to freeze the number of turns. Hopefully that will work.

Wolfleader..did you try the Chlanda WaWEditor? This editor should allow you to do most edits without screwing up your campaign!
Happy cheating!:D
