HELP
9th September 1942 playing as allies vs AI
I've completely surrounded Bangkok
Yesterday after a month I begun to march towards Bangkok with my forces
A motorized brigade arrived alone the 1st same day and without any order made a shock attack
The result was a complete disaster
Why happened?
It will happen also with all other forces which will arrive to Bangkok?
Many thanks for your help
Paolo

Did you attack across a river?

Two things, first as the moose said, crossing a river into an enemy hex triggers an automatic shock attack.
The other is when you are moving into an enemy held hex, you usually want all your troops to arrive at the same time. You can get an entire stack of units to move at the same time by setting one unit to move, then setting all other units in the hex to follow. If you want to leave any units behind (say to keep the siege in place, just go and cancel the move orders for that one unit. If you are moving units from multiple hexes, start with the biggest stack, start it moving, then the next turn, start moving units from other hexes unless they are motorized, you may want to wait a couple of turns based on how fast the largest stack is moving.
Anyway, the goal is for the tallest stack to arrive first followed by smaller concentrations. If you timing it perfectly they will all arrive at once.

Many thanks to all of you. So coming back to Bangkok, do you suggest to move all units to Ayuthia (no river) or to move first units in Ayuthia and then at the last all the others?
In any case many thanks for these info, really I did not remember
Thanks
Paolo

Depends on the situation. You don't give enough details to really give you much help.
Crossing a river to attack initiates a shock attack but also with higher disruption added to your units, so you had better have overwhelming odds to do this and prep the enemy with lots of air or sea bombardments. Also it's highly advisable to prep for a base to 100% if you plan a cross river shock, preferably with Army and Command HQs prepped as well if it's a big tough base and you know it will take time to conquer.
