So there I am, meandering through the forums, and I see:
"Capt P vs VikingNo2"
Color
me surprised.

Good thing I checked. Last time I missed noticing a challenge, I'd been 'roasted' by half the forum before I knew I was in a fight.
Now, I have been tracking JJ through the forum threads for weeks, giving him grief. Now suddenly, he turns on me!! :p
I'm not sure what I've been handed here, but I'm gonna do my best make it interesting.
Hang on to your jackboots, Vikingmeister. I'm comin' to get ya.
Note to the editor: Don't play DARs. I always lose when there's an DAR
But I love doin' them anyway.
I need a little time to contemplate force composition. Should be back in a day or two.

After much deliberation, elimination, tweaking, twiddling and fussing; I've come up with a nice little can of 'whoop-***' for Mr Horney Helmet. (At least it looks good on paper  )
*************************************************
"So finally we meet", Captain Pixel mused as he slowly stroked his close-cropped beard.
"Intelligence has it were up against VikingNo2 today, Sir" informed Corporal Vincent.
"They didn't think we were enough of a threat to send VikingNo1, eh, corporal?" Pixel stomped down his left heel on the dirt floor of his tent and drove the black boot onto his foot fitting it snugly into place.
"No Sir, I'd guess not, Sir. But you'll show them their error, Sir"
"We'll make the Jerrys run, Sir"
"Darned straight, son. They'll be runnin' back to Adolf with their tails between their arses when our boys are done with 'em."
Pixel was emboldened by the racket and cacophony of rumbling treads and spitting exhausts as he stepped out of the command tent. Column after column of shiny, new Shermans passed by, grinding the earthen roads beneath them to dust.
"Just as I shall grind Viking's men under my boot" thought Pixel.
The Captain swung himself onto the step of his command jeep. Placing one hand on the windshield and his other foot up on the passenger's seat, he waved his riding crop and signalled the already moving columns forward.
Cheers arose from all up and down the line of moving armor and men.
"HURRAH!!!"
An unforgiving pothole dropped Pixel without ceremony onto the seat. Corporal Vincent stifled a chuckle as the jeep bounded off down the road doggedly trying to catch the head of the column.

Capt P drops 155 in several location and causes some casualties, three Shermans are spotted by a soon dead recon car, not much else
A 'soft' opening

Boy! All quiet on the Eastern front.
Pre-positioned AT guns and advancing M8s dispatch several kubelwagens. An M3 command car got a little too far forward and revealed an enemy AT presence by blowing up. (Got to teach these boys not to do that!) That about evened the score for 4 kubelwagens.
The Tank columns and their support begin to fan and stagger out in anticipation of more scouts coming over the hills. This map offers lots of low, open areas separated by short ridges. It's perfect for hiding platoons of Shermans.
US artillery is dropping smoke along major lanes of approach and several tanks and jeeps fire smoke rounds to blot suspected enemy vantage points.
A GE MC got stuck on the top of a hill and withstood substantial US fire. He's still there.
You're up, Sir.

Not much to report, found some halftracks hiding in the tree, I'm glad those cars are cheap. Capt P drops more smoke. Still don't see much I'm sure more action will happen soon

A Country Stroll --

Rolling over the countryside, we sight and dispatch a couple of ACs and another kubelwagen that had deeply penetrated our territory. (What do you pay those guys to be so suicidal?) He apparently had enough time to report several positions to a nearby section of Lorraines. They are priority targets.
The first tank sighted buys a 75mm in the nose. One less PzIII to worry about.
VikingNo2 is using a nifty little trick with his arty. (or maybe he's not, it's hard to tell for sure). He smokes up an area with MCs, runs them forward and then brings in SPA under their smoke. All the opponent sees is a message that Motorcycles fired smoke. Sneaky. I like it!
So far we've sighted kubelwagens, Sdkfz222, PzIII and Pz IV. Standard fare. No big surprises yet. Where are those Ferdinands, JJ?
Capt P fires more smoke along his approaches. (Capt P
likes smoke. It means so many things to so many people.

)
And I just noticed that it's raining in this battle. Why is it always raining? Capt P hates the rain. It makes mud.
And the turn goes to you.

Recon spots several Platoons of M4s in the north, a command car down south gets nailed. Initial recon reports show a stong push in the north, in the south all is very quite.
Arty kills a M4 in the north, and I almost forgot rear MC pop more smoke for you to guess at.
Back to you Capt P
Bottom of turn Three

Nothing terribly spectacular this turn. Those Sherman sections are driving GE Scouts before them. Another Sherman drops under the wilting 150 HE from a Lorraine.
"Tell 'em to shoot back dammit!" Capt Pixel struck the camp table, apparently unaware that the plank was not actually attached to anything.
Corporal Vincent's coffee cup at the far end began a beautifully ballistic arc towards Pixel. The slight spin imparted at launch kept the coffee securely inside the cup, defying gravity, right across the table. The final point of contact, and the point at which the cup no longer retained it's liquid cargo, was just below Capt Pixels belt buckle.
"And find me a clean pair of pants!!"
Corporal Vincent ducked out of the tent barely stifling yet another chuckle. It's gonna be a good day for Corporal Vincent. No matter what happens.
Capt P pops more smoke.

The large armored force in the north continues to get hit with arty, causing some casualties on some already shot up and retreating AT guns.
In the south two 57mm AT guns get wiped out, at the cost of two recon cars. They were set up quite nicely. Capt P remained very quite in the south wanting me to run in front of those AT gun with something big, no doubt.
The US hits the center hill with 155 prep fire, and smokes more of the map, back to you Capt P

Yep! He does it again. And caps a couple of ACs, kubelwagens and one of them nasty Lorraines. "That's for Jimmy. You ba****d!!"
Reports from the south indicate SS Mech Infantry with Motorcycles. But I'm sure that at least half of the Hermann Goering division is hidden in that forest (with a company of Ferdinands) and is ready to unload like a coiled spring.
Bring it on V!

Your arty is going to run out of ammo soon my friend.
This turn a halftrack and a couple of M8s die in the south and a sherman in the north. As soon as that arty runs out then we will mix it up allot more, I promise
Turn 5 and Still Alive!

Funny, I was thinking the same of your arty.
Found a Tiger 1E (early) right along the northern map edge escorted by a Panther D.
Two more Tigers sit back and are covering the map center. (Capt P pops smoke

)
A Panther D and a couple of PzIVs have appeared in the southern sector.
There must be some desperation in the north. V charged me with a PzII and an Sdkfz 251/2.

But nobody has to worry about them anymore.
Some infantry got chewed near the northern village, along with a 37mm ATG. ATRs and HMGs were dispatched along the ridge road between the villages.
Greyhounds destroyed a PzII in the south and pestered a Panther providing overwatch. I figure that if I can get him to fire enough times, he'll bust his main gun.
JJ, you must be a man of infinite patience. Your tactics would seem to require that. (Either that, or you forgot to deploy and started your forces right at the map edge. )
Here ya go. Punch in Turn 6.

Lots of AUX unit are engaging me in the South:eek: Capt P must have call them very early.
In the south two M8s and a halftrack get picked off in the north two M4s and a M8 get taken out, there are lots of turns left and I don't have reinforments.............yet, so I am trying to kill your recon elements first ( M8s, halftracks, and those 4man recon teams you like ) those are the intial targets. Keep throwing the smoke, the flametanks need the cover

Turn 6

Not a good turn for the US. We're experiencing many breakdowns and immobilizations.
VikingNo2 is a sharp cookie. He's leading me a merry chase across the countryside. (I wonder if he realizes that he's running out of countryside?)
The US lost a Wolverine due to bad movement practice. Who'd have thought that idiot would use an unsecured road to get from A to B.
A Greyhound, safely secluded behind a hill, got capped by a 251/1.

You don't see that often, but it does happen sometimes.
The V's making a move. Scrunching everything up against the southern map edge. (Probably to minimize the effect of my artillery - not that it really needs to minimized anymore than it already is. )
All we've really seen so far is kubelwagens, GE scout patrols (you know, the mothers with the panzerwurfmine), the occasional ATR and ATG, and a couple of MGs. Motorcycles are scrambling all over the place. I'm beginning to suspect that's all he has besides a platoon of Panther Ds, a couple of sections of early Tigers and a couple of sections of PzIVs. This battle is kind of like using a baseball bat to hit a swarm of gnats - you get a few with each pass, but...
The Lorraines let up a bit, probably scooting to new firing locations.
Capt P DIDN'T fire smoke. Hmmm, what's he up to?

If I were a betting man I would bet that in the south, if I push over that hill there would be several AT guns and M10s waiting for me
This turn I pick off a Sherman a M8 and a Halftrack, the Shermans and the infantry hiding behind those villiages will come out soon the the real fghting can start
Turn 7

by Capt. Pixel
Yep, ATGs and M10s... and M8s and jeeps!!
Well, I managed to immobilize a Sherman in a stone bldg. But I got a kubelwagen and a SiG33 for my trouble.
We're advancing all along the front and the first objective, V's N-S road, has been achieved. We're working on local security now.
US units are now engaging his infantry and ATGs (mostly 37mm and 50mm). SS squads are dropping like flies. V has ATR teams everywhere, it seems.
I'm reasonably certain I've ground away most of V's eyes and ears (there's still a couple of scouts in the south). Now he can show me how he fights blinded.
Casualties are starting to mount for the US. Scouting units, of course, have taken the brunt of the damage, but the armor contingent is getting pounded pretty well too. Fortunately, the infantry is doing quite nicely. (staying in your halftrack during an artillery barrage is a
good idea.
I would 'have at you', but I can't find your slippery butt.
(JJ, I apologize for the slow turn-arounds. This game is a bit larger than my usual preference and I'm finding it difficult to get into on a daily basis. I will do better. Promise.

I find myself losing in several games currently:mad:
Capt P called reinforcement very early on, if not on the first turn, when I saw this I have tried to not get into a decisive battle with him having so many more units I am however, running out of space, this turn I was able to pick off several of those M8. I got a Sherman as well. Hopefully my reinfocements will get here before I run out of battle field:(
I'm sorry

I seem to be saying that a lot lately.
I just can't seem to find it in me to open and play this particular game anymore. Therefore, I concede.
Thank you for answering my challenge and setting up a game for us to play. You are quite a crafty opponent.
Perhaps sometime we can play again? (If I haven't thoroughly p***ed you off by bailing on this one.)
If we can manage a rematch, I'd like the opportunity to discuss points, countries, map size, etc. first, before we play. It might make me more inclined to finish what you started.
Good game, JJ. And Thanks again.
