0.7.18 Uncrewed Missions require astronauts

v 0.7.18
NASA Sandbox
Mercury Program - Uncrewed SubOrbital Flight

If you have no astronauts hired or all of them are training it won't let you assemble an uncrewed mission. I will be checking if this happens on other programs/missions too.

Thank you!

Hello DrkTemplar,

Welcome to the SPM forums [:)]

Notice that what you're reporting is expected behaviour: the required astronaut is for the CAPCOM position in Mission Control.

Cheers,

AFAIK, CAPCOM is (usually) a backup crew member that fills that position to communicate with the crew on board. Whats the point of assigning a CAPCOM on an unnmaned mission?

As reference I link the reports of the first two Gemini missions (both unmanned) and there was no CAPCOM assigned by NASA

Best regards!

PS: Can't post full links, not allowed by the forum (sorry!)

You're right [:)] We won't be able to fix this for tomorrow's patch, but we'll certainly add it to the backlog and give it high priority so it can make it way into the one after that.

Thanks for reporting this!

Cheers,

Hello DrkTemplar,

No worries about re-floating this thread!

I've fixed it for Mercury, but I still need to fix it for Gemini/Lunar Gemini and Apollo. Hopefully I'll get it done in time for 0.7.26.

Cheers,
