Change Model Function

IMHO the "Change Model Function" is too surreal and powerful. A player can instantly change an infantry division to a Panzer Division at the click of the button; and back again to the original unit or even a different model later on in the same turn. Further, the new unit retains all of the existing experience, readiness, morale, etc., of the "mother unit" including the AP's. While this may have been a well intended idea, the effect on game play is way too powerful and fantasy.

An infantry division does not have enough range to complete an encirclement or attack a city? No problem, use the Change Model Function to instantly convert it to a fully Motorized Division or Panzer Division. At the end of the move want to assault the city with infantry rather than Panzer? Use the Change Model Function to change the division back to the original infantry division - and this all in the same turn.

As for me, I am going to forget that this function exists and have asked my PBEM partner to do the same.

Cheers

You should actually try to change the model and discover its not as powerfull as you think. Its just a change on paper. It will take a lot of rounds to actually become the new model in reality as its a slow process to send new equipment and return no-longer needed equipment. And yes this will involve losing experience.

best wishes,
Vic

Vic,

I see that the icon changes but the unit details do not reflect the new OOB. However, the combat value instantly changes - how does this affect combat calculations?

Thanks

Mark

The integrity value might change (and thus breaking thresholds), but otherwise the troops will fight the same as before.

Vic

Part of the issue is the camouflage effect; the opponent sees a nomitive armored division and may think it is even if it has the oob of an infantry division.

I hear you. But just one last thought...
It would not be a-historical to find a panzer division without panzers.
Maybe its a bit to early in the war here but in the late war it became quite common for Germany to field for example panzer divisions that were only panzer divisions in name.

Anyway it is a costly technique since you pay PP for the model switch.

Best,
Vic
