They should just name permanent venues for these things. South Africa for the World Cup, Switzerland or Japan for the Winter Olympics (maybe rotate them) and Greece for the Summer Olympics.

The world stops. I live near NYC and whoever wins likely has an ethnic neighborhood where one can observe (or participate) in the festivities. Last year I was in Casa de Luis when Spain won Casa De Luis or "Louie's house of garlic" is on Long Island. I have been in Little Brazil, Little Italy and Glendale (heavily German) after World Cup wins. NYC can be pretty special that way. I live on Long Island now, not that far away. We have some Mexican, Columbia and Honduran neighborhoods nearby. I , for one, will be barhopping around to watch as many games as I can

The best news for World Cup is that the Vuvuzelas are banned from the stadiums. Brazilians aren't known for their following the law so it should be interesting. Brazilians like to celebrate with fireworks so every goal they score or match that they win will cause many explosions. My poor dog freaks out so my wife and I will stay with her to help calm her during the matches. Tomorrow she'll be kenneled as we'll be at a big BBQ with a large screen to watch the game tomorrow as my effort to get tickets came to naught.

I found turning the sound off worked great. Better to hear the 7 of us watching the game complaining, groaning, and cheering. Also made it much easier to ask someone to get you another beer when they went to the kitchen. [;)]

When NBC broadcast all the Olympic soccer games online last year, the women's games didn't have commentators and there were practically no fans in the stands. You could hear the players talking to each other and calling out, that was amazing and very educational, especially for my daughter. The best soccer commentating I've seen was no commentating, it let you really experience the game first-hand.

Hit the mute and have you and your friends become your own in-game analysts. Your opinions are just as valuable as the guys on tv.

Fingers crossed that the USA beats Ghana 2-0. It's the only way we've got a chance to get out of Group.

My favorite place to watch the games over the years was not a pub in London, or the place du Hotel de Ville in Paris with 10k Germany and USA fans trading songs and taunts, but it was a small place in Chapel Hill, NC called Italian Pizzeria III on the Western end of Franklin Street. While it is small, the University brings people from all over the world in to study, and for some reason they all went to IP3 to watch games. It was raucous from the start, and when Italy won the place was absolutely nuts. Very fun.

This year I've picked a few spots, one a Portugese cafe called Cafe Kick that sports fooseball tables and Sagres beer. Yes!!

Going to give all that looking for the perfect place to watch a miss this time as the kick off times means watching it at home.

Currently working on the wife to let my eldest (six) to stay up to watch the England games.

I'm very excited for it. USA is doomed in the Group of Death, but I hope we give it a good run.

Planning to watch with a Colombian co-worker - they have a good chance to get out.

My second choice team will be England since I'm really English by descent. There is the usual angst about the 3 Lions, and they are in the other Group of Death, but I actually think they do well as they have a lot of good young talent ready to make its mark.

IMHO, winner will be Germany, Spain or Brazil. How Brazil will play is actually a big wild card, as is the health of Suarez.

PS - I'll consider it a victory if none of my Arsenal players get hurt. [8|]

Unfortunately I can't see England or the USA getting out of their groups but it should be fun to watch anyway.

The USA just could surprise and advance. You never know. It's either that or go home with 0 points.

I think England is 50/50, but I'm pretty high on them due to the "youth movement." They won't do too much if they get out, but I have a crazy feeling they get out.

USA is all dependent on the Ghana game. Simply a must win right out of the gate.

Futbol is corrupt. FIFA is something too. Let's buy a Cup. All in favor?
