Hi guys,

Hannibal: Terror of Rome has just been released. If you are looking for a bit more in-depth info on the game before you pull the trigger, this beta preview written by a veteran Ageod player provides an excellent starting point!

Best,

I must say Haplo didn't paint a very pretty picture of the AI performance in the game. But, congrats on getting it out the door. [:)]

If I had to choose I would say that the AI shines most playing the Romans, although I am quite certain it will give a good game as Carthage as well.

If you play the game you will see that it is fairly easy to make mistakes as Human Carthage: you have a lot of options and a lot of ground to cover against a relentless enemy with big reserves.
I am myself especially prone to losing my fleet, as it is too tempting to maintain the much-increased mobility by trying to sneak past the superior Roman navy. So, it is hardly surprising that Carthage AI can also blink at times and make a move that turns out to be a bad idea. :)

You mean there's finally an AGEOD AI I can beat? :)

I might have to get it myself.

P.S. How would you compare the AI challenge to Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War?

Hannibal is one tough AI. I managed to win by a stroke of luck. AGEOD AI has lots more to do and can be enhanced in options menu. I don't PBEM AGEOD games, so would figure you'd need to max out the AI advantages to get a good game playing the Romans. The beta preview in OP's thread is a good read.

Hello

Lots of work has been done on the AI for this game, and we plan for possible improvements to be done in future patches.

I would say that playing as Carthage against Roman AI can be very challenging and is maybe the most "fun".
You can check Haplo's AAR in Ageod forum (http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.p ... ds-amp-Men) to see for yourselves [;)]

Anyhow, we managed to "convince" Carthage AI to think that crossing the Alps with a big army, away from controlled territory and supply bases and into enemy held territory could actually be a good idea...[:D]. But I would say that if you play as Rome versus Carthage AI, you will get a harder challenge if you increase the difficulty of the AI at least one level from the default one.

I hope you enjoy the game, I for sure have had lots of fun helping making it [:)]

Regards

The guys from the AJE team really put a lot of hours adding scripts and 'agents' to guide the AI and they also asked for extra code to model some new behavior. The AI is a never-quite-done job at Ageod anyway, this is a bit of a pet peeve ;)

That's great. I am not a realism nut, so if I find the AI has trouble with Hannibal crossing, I can easily mod things to make it easier for him and the game more fun for me. Thank you.
