Is there any way to get past the forced scenario progression to allow me to play whatever scenarios I want? That sort of thing makes sense in a RPG or the lesser sorts of RTS games, but in a simulation-style game like this I'd rather explore the battle and scenarios as I'd like.

I see all scenarios listed after selecting "single player" -> "user scenarios" from the menu.
They might have been installed by a mod, can't remember. Check there:
