Drive to the East (Stalingrad AAR)

This thread will be based on my experiences with the brand new and redone Stalingrad campaign.
I realize there is another one going on and am not trying to compete with it (mine will be no where near as good, I hope to make that up by liberal use of profanity and verbaly berating my troops when they fail me

).
First off id like to say thanks to all those who helped make Stalingrad (the SpWaW version of it at least possible).
Ok lets begin with my OOB.
Im proud of what I picked
1x German Rifle Company ( I was gona go with FJ's or SS...but I decided to give the Heer their just do)
I gave them Mg-42's and they have 3x attached 50mm mortars and 3x AT rifles.
1x Plt Pzkpfw IVf2 (s)
1x Plt Stug40 ausf F
1x Sec Pz 38(t) for a light tank scouting role
1x Plt SdKfz-231 8-Rad
1x plt German Spec ops
1x Sec SdKfz 251/1 HT
1x Sec GE Mg-34 heavy motorcycle squads (my cavlary so to speak, I renamed one of them Gen. Forrest in this regard

)
1x Plt SdKfz-7/1 for my AA role.
and what im most proud of
1x Plt PzA LrS (f) Im interested to see how those work out
1x Sec Kubelwagon MG
1x GE sniper
Alexandra, did you spend all of your points?
It seems like I bought more than you did.
Okie this is it for now, Im gona play the first battle and post it, be back in about an hour.

Very good selection of forces to build upon! I do the same -buy Kubelwagons and convert these later on in game into something needed
As for the LrS's - these are great! Be sure to turn one of the Kubelwagons into an ammo truck for these!
Good luck!

**Spolier!!!**
ARGG!
This was one of the most annoying battles ive fought in a while.
I crushed my foe 2.2 to 1 in points and still got a draw.
The mission was to link up with the 24th panzer division and bring them some supplies.
One the way we got waylayed by some Soviet rebels with nothing better to do than take potshots at trucks along back country roads.
I deployed my forces in a spear shape with all my halftrack armored cars and tanks as "flankers".
I kept this formation thourghout the whole game.
I moved my kubelwagons and cars forward and began making contact.
I took heavy losses among these forces but it was worth it with the information gained and casulties they caused.
I moved my AUX halftracks and a platoon of infantry first in line, then 2 groups of trucks.
I came up with a plan (and I think its worked pretty well) to wait until all ammo trucks were on the map before I moved them to the exits.
I put all 6 in the same hex and kept all my Pz IV's and 3 rad-8's around to escort them.
This worked very well and kept them from being destroyed piece-meal.
To make a long story short I moved in black-hawk down fashion to the exits and got id say 80% of my group out alive.
The most annoying part was where soviets would "infiltrate" right on top of my ammo trucks and before I could op fire they would fire their rifles and BOOM!.
I lost 3 ammo trucks this way....which sucked...(my superiors are gona tear me a new one over that)
I even employed Gen. Garrison like tactics and didnt leave a single man behind,
One of my Pz IV swept back down the road and picked up the living crews from unlucky vehicles and took them to the exits.
The Soviets were decimated.
I hunted down and wiped out every single unit except their 82mm mortar.
They had around a 2 companies worth of men including a attached sapper platoon.
Along with 2 45mm AT guns (which did nothing for them, I found them and wiped them out before they scored a single hit).
Im pretty pissed about my draw so I handed my prisoners over to the SS (im sure they will be "dealt" with

) and moved out to take my revenge.
Very nice map Bryan....but the spawning right on the road and my trucks kinda sucks....
Final Game stats :
Germany: Soviets:
Losses: 94 224
Arty: 0 2
Soft: 8 0
APC:0 0
AFV: 7 0
Points: 10224 4874
DRAW
On to battle two.
I hope repairs are cheap....
****.....I coudldnt quite repair everything....1 kubelwagon was left dameged..
I didnt get to upgrade anything either.
But on a good note I had 5-6 units become vetreans and 3-4 promoted and gained some skills.
This next battle is suppossed to be somewhat easy (ya right).
Panzers forward....

Fallschirmjager,
Here is a patch for the Stalingrad campaign that fixes a few of the Battles that ended early. You have't played these yet!
Somehow I loader older versions of these battle onto the final version by accident

Hey Fallshirmjager!
Nice to see someone else doing an AAR.
As for did I spent all my point. yes, except for like 10 or so.
But, your infantry cost you 332 less than mine did

I just checked, that's the main difference in our OOBs.
Beyond that, our armor is similar, but I think my flame tanks will be much more useful then your 38t's. I tend to use Aux units to scout with
I don't have any innate scout cars, but my Spec Ops came with my SS company, so we're the same there.
You have a greater variety of units than me, which will give you flexibility. I picked up a SP mortar section, and now that the 5 mortars that came along with the SS company are now also upgraded to the motorized version, I have a very mobile arty unit, under the command of my FO, that is very cool.
Those Flak tanks should serve you well, too. They are great at infantry kills!
I also found it very interesting how people react differently to the same thing

I liked how the partisans in Scen 1 popped up the way they did. To me, it felt more realistic and gave the scen a running battle feel. You, though, disliked it. I find that very interesting. It'll be neat to see how you upgrade your guys, too.

I had partisans pop up, SE of the road before the village, and fire across 2 ammo trucks in order to hit a Stower 40 junk vehicleon the NW sidw of the road and in LOS. Just lucky, I guess? , on that one. Got a MV in this one.

Good job
Hint - I timed the Partisans to pop up in key areas to ambush ammo truck and the unwary

ARGGG!!!
I dont even wanna talk about this battle....
I got another draw and the soviets actually outscored me...
Im not even going to post the results of this fiasco...
Whole companies poped up behind my forces and swallowed the victory hexes and the small rearguard I left to defend them.
I lost 6 halftracks and 2/3 of my infantry in this fashion...
It also doesnt help than 1 of my sqauds is worth a whole platoon of russians...
If this next scenario doesnt imporve I give up...
Im already doing without 20% of my core force...
I would tell you about the final battle but im too mad to.

Actually I found this scenario loads of fun:) My two platoons of Captured French Tanks which I brought along for scouting purposes made short work of those pesky Infiltrating Russians (I left both platoons to guard the rear VH since they couldnt keep up with the modern armor).
My Force Consisted of the Following:
A0 - HQ Guys
1-StuG aus F Platoon
1-PzIV Platoon (long Barrel)
1-FlammenPZ Section
2 Platoons Captured French Tanks (R somethings)
1 FJ Company
1 FJ Platoon
1 Halftrack with 20mm Flaks AAA platoon
1 150mm Mobile Artillery on PzI Chasis
4 8cm Mortars
5 Kublewagons
Oh and a mech FO

Well I am on Scenario 3 and so Far I have upgraded my Forces to the Following:
2 StuG ausF Platoons (3 Kublewagons upgraded to Stug aus F)
1 PzIVf2 Platoon
1 FJ Company (MG 42)
1 FJ Platoon (MG 42)
4 8cm Mortars
1 Mech FO
1 Ammo Truck (Made from a Kublewagon)
1 Kublewagon (Earmarked tobecome an Ammo truck for Scen 4)
1 Platoon 150mm Arty auf PZI
1 Platoon FlakTraks
1 Flam PZ section (Many Kills here)
2 Frenchie Tank Platoons
For Scenario Three I also Bought some Planes for my FJ's to parachute out of and dropped the whoe reinforced Company in the woods next to the main Soviet Village (Where the 76mm AT gun WAS hiding <EG>) I also Bought Some Henschells to strafe the expected Soviet Tanks.
I set up in the Following Manner: Frenchies and a section of PZIVs in Area C.
All Artillery FO, and AO along with the two StuG secs in Area 2.
Everything Else in Area One.
Turn 1.
I get lucky with the Initial Bombardment as The Luftwaffe takes out a Platoon of t-34s hiding in the woods. Since i Have a Goldspot near that area I expect many more of t-34 to die, along with their Tankodesantniki partners.
In Section C My Tanks Advance and Come under fire from AT Assets (smoke and 150mm is plotted on suspected locations).
In Area B, M Forces Rush Forward and Begin the Massacare of a Russian onvoy of Stuarts and GazzAA trucks, with Infantry in them.
FJ Forces land in the forest Near the Village unharmed. They regroup, Take out a Russian AT Gun and Shoot up some 37mm AAA. Heavy Artillery Falls on the Village itself.
Toward the Top Our tanks arranget hemselves on the ridge line, while AAA take up good positions, and halftraks and Marders arange themselves into two spearheads. Light tanks and scout tracks scout out the area and destroy four Armoured cars and some AT Rifles. Infantry of the Soviets is spotted by a VH and Anihilated. No losses thus far.
Turns 2-4
Artillery Mostly Concentrates on Surpressing Known ad Suspected AT Positions and Hammering the Locations of the KV Tanks in the Village Proper. Our Flyboys take out 2 More T-34s and Some Grant Tanks (2)
In Area C, My Armoured Spearhead kills two AT Guns Loosing three French Tanks in the Process, The French Tanks Remain to Guard the Village (Useless Scrapheaps, I have the feeling that they are going to get "Guard the Village and "Scout for AT guns" missions throughout the campaign") while the PZIV section sneaks to behind the suspeted position of what the Airmen tell us is a Full t-34 Company.
In Area B The Convoy is slaughtered without Mercy (and with the loss of some Bikers) StuGs and Infantry Some of which have arrived as Reinforcements Advance on the Village. Marders and IIL's stay behind to guard their Rear.
By The Village The FJs hide in the Woods as they have spotted Many General Lee tanks and dont want to die by leaving the woods.
In Area A:
MKIVs and light tanks supported by Infantry Advance to the Forest in the Middle, several scouts and a halftrack is lost to Soviets in the woods and we regroup waiting for halftrack mounted infantry And Flametanks to Reinforce the Forest Batte as well as for some Artillery to free up. Towards the center the Soviet Armoured Horde is Slaughtered with No losses and two VH are taken. To The Far Right Short Barreled MKIVs Marders Scout Cars and Infantry Try to take out a Soviet VH. I Loose a scout car two Halftracks and an Infantry Squad to Unexpected Resistance.
AAA Mauls a PE-2

Hehe This was one hell of a scenario... Whoever came up with the idea of having two companies of t-34s a Platoon of t-70s and a Company of KV1's Do a Flank Attack at about turn5 is a sadistic genius. However the KVs and T-34s were slaughtered and the village failed to hold against airdropped FJs. Every Russian down to the last crewmember was killed. End Result DV me with some 20000pints and the CPU with 3000.
The next scenario is starting to look evil, as Airsttrikes have found extensive fortification and at least 4 Companies of KV1s Entrenched. I am also expecting t-34 and KV-1 flank attacks to arrive as reinforcements for the Russians:)

Just wait till you make it to the City
T34s will get tougher soon!

Just to specify it's an updated campaign to the original that is already built into SPWAW. It's based on the newest set of OOB's making it more realistic and challenging.

Does it overwrite the original? I wasen't paying attention and didn't notice.
