SUPPLY QUERY

Can anyone help? I've had 2 messages saying the supply column to 901 base has suffered 100% casualties. When I select the supply lines info then everything is green, ditto the corner box showing supply. It's early hours day 3 Race for Bastogne. In the pic I've put a yellow circle around the base. Does the message mean that a column was hit between the base and its parent base, or between the base and the SEP, or between the base and its drawing units? Those units are at the opposite edge of the map, camped out around Assenois, again, all showing healthy green supply status.

Detail from Assenois with green supply line back to base showing. But why don't I get the new graphics showing the detailed route into the HQ? Why is it just a straight line back to the base?

If I click on the base in question I get this - green lines to everything it is supplying, but no line at all showing where it is drawing supply from - why?

Re the 901st Regt Base. The message says "to" the base and this could either be from the SEP or returning from some unit. I admit that it would be more informative if we included in such cases who was the sender. I'll see what we can do about this in Cmd Ops 2.
Re supply lines. The supply lines that are drawn are the last supply line that it generated. This may have been hours ago. There is no way that we could update every units supply path every minute and still run the game at an acceptable speed. This also applies to the supply line status in the info box. This represents the status the last time the unit generated a supply path.

This is an educated guess Peter, but I think the bases draw the supplies for use by their own staff, from the organic base next up the chain, not from their own base, and the supply convoy that stocks the base is different in size and frequency from the one that supplies and feeds its staff.
I noticed this when I saw the problem with the basics supplies recently, when the regimental bases where fully stocked, and the division ones empty.
Even though the Regimental bases were full, the regimental base staff were low on basics, because they were drawing the staff supplies direct from Division.
I think this was put in to prevent the Regimental bases from hogging all their own supplies, like they did before the first big supply update, to fix the problems with the long HTTR scenarios.
So what you are probably seeing is attrition to the staff supply convoys, that would be far more regular than the Regimental Base, depot stocking convoys, if the base itself is in combat, or vice versa if the rest of the Regiment was in combat.
I'm fairly sure that if the main depot convoy is interdicted, it will say which Divisional base sent the convoy, and the destination Regimental Base.
This is all from memory, I will need to play it to confirm, or maybe you can?
I am still busy with Grand Kids, and relatives at the moment.
I'm sure you will agree, if what I said above is correct its a very minor problem?

Go to the Divisional base that is supplying this base, to see what the colour of the lines are.
Maybe there will be more clues there to find out what is going on.
Like Dave said you will only see the route that the supply is taking, while the supply convoy is in transit.
Once it has delivered its supplies it will revert back to a straight line.
This is not terribly helpful, because once the message comes up to say the convoy has been interdicted, the route has already reverted to a straight line, so you can't see the route it took [X(]
You have to agree though its far better than what we used to have.

Also keep in mind that the description of the mod indicated the AI "learns" where the interdiction occurred and alters the route to avoid assigning subsequent supply convoys a routing through the previously interdicted area.

Actually a Base draws supplies for its own 'personal' use from its own stocks. It does not raise a separate request for a separate supply run to it from it superior Base or SEP.

Thanks, Dave, Daz and Jim. I think this must be a case of the column being hit on the way back out of the flot, since there are no enemy in the rear areas (I surrender checked). I hadn't thought it was a bug or an issue, by the way, just wasn't sure what info we were meant to have and what it meant. I've found supply to be massively more (intuitively) unproblematic since all the changes following on the starving paras posts. It's great now, I think, especially in terms of units failing to get supply just because they are engaged (interdiction from beyond the flot) - this happens much less often. I second navwarcol's comments elsewhere that I think the game is working superbly now. It was time to move on! Roll on CO2!
