Interesting photos, those 16 inches shells are more interesting to see them in flights.

That's the idea when Adm. Jackie Fisher created the dreadnougt warships - repeated salvos of heavy shells from multiple turrets, directed by centralized fire-control. His analogy was 'hammers vs. eggshells'.

The last couple of pics are cool with multiple rounds in the air. I visited the USS Massachusetts at BattleShip Cove in Fall River Massachusetts about 25 to 30 years ago with my soon to be wife. We went below decks so deep in the ship that we didn't see anyone else. It was very quiet except for a low humming from the lights. Cool to explore though...GP

My ship was in the gun line with USS NEW JERSEY once in the 1980's. One shell, about two miles away. You felt it about as much as heard it. I dread to think about being on the receiving end of NINE of the monsters.
