? training land combat units

I bought this game a number of years ago but haven't done much with it until about a week ago. Four restarts later I still have a lot of questions. I understand that training pilots is very important, and I can see their progress, but how much value is there in putting land units on rest/training? I haven't found an easy way to see if they actually make any progress in that mode. Any ideas?

More learned poster will correct if wrong but I believe setting to Rest/Train helps remove fatigue and boost morale more than experience
To get experience you have to Set Objective and when that level gets to 100% then you are able to gain experience.

You can "train" experience up to 50 by having an objective set and having it at level 100. You gain a point or so every so often if the stars align up to 50. After that experience is gained in combat operations as long as you don't lose too much during battle and have it replaced by recruits.

Actually this is based on nationality. Chinese troops go up to 45 exp if they are sitting and training while a US infantry division will eventually push 55. So if you have units that start with pitiful experience, (Chinese and Indian come to mind) do not reset their target until they are fully trained.

At start of many scenarios, or a GC game, many Allied units & reinforcement arrivals will have v low morale. These guys will improve their morale more quickly when set to rest/training.
