Hi guys,

I started the tutorial and within five minutes I have my first problem: I can't figure out, why the Objective "Lommersweiler" is dimmed out. At the beginning of the scenario, it is now D1 6:00. I know, the objective "Lommersweiler" will start at D1 12:00, but other objectives, i.e. "Breitfeld crossroads" will start even later (D2 3:00) and are not dimmed out. Btw., I have read the manual (page 49: "Inactive objectives (those that have finished or have yet to start) are dimmed out")

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

There are two types of victory points.

One is awarded for completing the criteria necessary to gain the location (secure, blow bridge, rebuild bridge, hold until end of game, etc.).

The other is awarded for occupying the location over a period of time.

As I understand it, a highlighted victory location is eligible for award of completion points based on the criteria assigned to it.

The start time reflects when points for occupying the location begin to be decremented from the maximum (in the case of St. Vith 25 total).

For example, the allies will gain 12.5 points for completing the St. Vith victory location criteria from the start of the game until its expiration as a victory location (could be earlier than the end of the game).

The player will gradually lose occupation points starting at 0600 Day 2 if friendly forces aren't assigned to hold St. Vith starting then (once the enemy is gone, it only takes a unit to hold the location).

The Lommersweiler location will not become eligible for accumulating occupation points until D1 1200 and isn't capable of awarding completion points until it is highlighted (per the scenario design data also D1 1200).

The Scenemaker Manual starting with Page 54 has a description of this, but the jargon to describe it is different from that used in the Game Manual and leads to confusion in the use of the terms.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for answering. This makes things clearer to me.

This game is just not self-explanatory, isn't it?

A good portion of it can be learned by playing along with the tutorial movies.

They provide a good overview of how to command and control friendly forces and evaluate issues those forces face in the battle space.

But, in the four years since the game was released, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) programming has been significantly improved from the original state. Means the computer opponent won't react as predictably as described in the movies because the decision programming made it "smarter" than the original.

Unless those videos have been updated to the latest build - well - I won't go so far as to say its way more difficult to get across the bridge but it is harder.

I remember the 1st time I played thru the St Vith scenario and I followed the tutorial to the penny. Every thing worked out just like in the movie. Not so any more.
