How and when a unit loses its zone of control

There's been some questions about how and when a unit loses its ability to exert a ZoC. A unit loses its ZoC if its disruption exceeds its unit quality. So 7 disruption on a average quality 6 unit means it doesn't exert a ZoC.
When this happens a red triangle in the upper left hand corner should appear on the unit counter.
Also, a unit can lose its ZoC, for the remainder of the current turn only, when its attacked. This has the effect of a unit being unable to block a retreat path if it is being attacked. The unit gets its ZoC back at the end of the turn.
