After tutorial, what next?

I read he manual, struggled through the tutorial, and then read the manual again.
There must be a simpler scenario to learn via the default directory: can anyone recommend a title and side?

TOAW reminds me somewhat of the Tiller games, but more complicated and with (too) much more micromanagement.

Try playing all four tutorials in the order recommended in the manual, then read the articles related to strategy linked in this thread:

tm.asp?m=2231803

Then read the manual one more time. You should be all set.

If by "simpler" you mean "smaller", then you should know that most of the scenarios that I have looked at are bigger than the tutorials, but not all. The smallest I have seen so far is "Arracourt" which is in the classic folder.

I created a simple tutorial with slides called Tutorial '41, it can be found here:

It basically shows you the main functions, interfaces as well as includes battalion size units of a Panzer Division in order to show you how the combined arms concept works within the TOAW III system.

You'll find that, although there's a lot going on under the hood, in well-designed scenarios you can play largely by instinct; e.g. this looks like the weakest part of the line, so I'll throw all my fresh armour in at this point.
