Dropping targets

Even though I am directing a unit or group to drop a target, it immediately retargets/re illuminates the target. I think this also may be slowing down the game. Thanks in advance.
Are you using a Prosecution Zone for your patrol mission? That will help.
Also, some useful hotkeys are:
'U' to unassigned from a mission
Ctl 'E' to disengage all targets
B
