Basic questions about modding CC TLD

Hey guys, I used to mod CC5 in all areas (data, graphics, sound, etc). I'm wanting to change the data around in CC TLD for my own picky needs.

To mod CC TLD, what tools do I need?

I noticed that data files are now in txt format. I don't have EXCEL...are they easily opened and edited with such an application or something better?

As for graphics, there isn't anything pressing to change, but in CC WAR for example, I'm wanting to change some of the interface graphics (those ugly 'next' signs painted at the bottom).
What application would I use to extract images? The old gadget munger?

Lastly, I'm assuming that sound editing is pretty straight forward. Does the CC3Hack tool still work well with editing the sound.sfx and music files?

Thanks in advance!

BTW, I'd like to add illumination rounds to standard mortars in the game. Is that possible?

A spreadsheet program really helps with dat editing as it will put all the data in the text files into columns. You will also be able to open the TLD workbook that ,Matrix released with all the column headers.

Yes, I need to get excel. I assume one can just copy and paste the values into the txt file when the changes are made?

I guess I'll mess with some sound editing as well. I don't see a lot of posts about that.

That is correct. I believe Open Office has a spreadsheet program that works with Excel files.
