Hi,
From my archive I have 2 nice maps 1:50000 scale and located between Bremen and Hamburg.
Stap 1: scan the maps on a large scanner and stick together.

Stap 2: Make some layers with Gimp and draw the hight. With a increment of 10 meters.

Step 3: Converts this to Hexdraw and show the hight and rivers.

convert" "L2722.tmp.png" -resize 4120x3126 "C:\Matrix Games\Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm\Modules\FPRS\Maps\L2722 Sittensen.png"

That's an interesting map you have. What else is in your archive?
Solid job with the map values, except for the stream East of Stemmen not yet being covered by obstacle id's. You may want to add those, so crossing that stream becomes time-consuming as it should be.

p.s. Gimp and ImageMagick are also my friends

I too think the map is interesting. Did you use Hexdraw? if you did, I would recommend that you use it to smooth out the river and roads. It is time consuming, but the rivers and roads would look more realistic.
Is this suppose to be a winter map, or id you just like the colors scheme? Also, Are you going to create a scenario with this map. I would highly recommend that you do. Good job.
PS--I recommend what W1ll14m recommended in his post too.

This map is just a experiment with [boardgame]map making. Not a special winter version. How abstract can you go without losing the map feeling.
There was one thing not working. a difference of hight on both sides of a river wasn't visible with type of map look just below Gr. Meckelsen (and the city of Selsingen).
The missing obstacle id's of the river east of Stemmen wil corrected.
The scenario is waiting, first I want to create a Dutch army and this will take some time.

Just checked out your updated map. I noticed that the minor roads are not coded as "road". Is that on purpose?

Yes,
This type of road is more or less small road and only local traffic but it mean there always a way of connection between the tiles (same a the small road on the NL Utrecht map). This give a visual indication of better movement on terrain with a bad movement like the swamps.

Harry_vdk, You might already be aware of this site but I found it to be a great resource for the Dutch Army when I put the battlefield tour together:

Yes, I am aware of this great site.
And fun to see that we have a unit including a chaplain with our
compagnie.
