Awakening of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Richard III (J)

So, I got back in the saddle pretty quickly this time. Richard and I got along very well from the first email so it seemed very natural for us to start a game. I will leave it to him to introduce himself as he will be running his own AAR. [&o]

He is no stranger to AE as this will be his 6th AE PBEM! [X(]

It took a bit of compromising to get this going (not surprising considering my HRs and PDU OFF!) so I had to drop Symons gnarly roads and agree on DaIronBabes. Admittedly it scares me a bit to play against an opponent I know so little about with all the extra SCEN 2 stuff. Have to look up exactly what is added unless someone can fill me in? [:)]

Here are the agreed on HRs.

---------------------------------------
Scenario 30 with StackingLimits (DaIronBabes)
---------------------------------------

FOW ON
advanced Weather ON
Allied damage control ON
PDU OFF
historical first turn OFF
Dec 7 surprise ON
reliable USN torps OFF
realistic R&D ON
no unit withdrawels OFF

combat reports ON
auto sub ops OFF
TF move radius ON
plane move radius ON
facilities expand OFF
auto upgrade ships and airgroups OFF
auto air and ground replacements OFF

---------------
First turn HRs
---------------

1 CV port strike on turn 1
Only existing Allied TFs can move on first turn.
Only allied units in China can move first turn.

---------
Game HRs
---------

Max altitude for all Aircraft according to year. (41-43 Max 25k. 44-46 Max 35k)
No 4Es below 10k (Port, ground, Naval attack) except navy ones.
Restricted units must pay PPs to cross national borders
No Manchurian Heavy Artillery in China (fine outside China)
No more then two tank RGTs per hex in China (no limitations outside China)
No strategic bombing by either side until 1/1/43.

Pretty much the same HRs I had against Tom but with the last 3 added. I hope by limiting Artillery and Armor in China a bit I can stave off the collapse a little longer. The last one goes without saying... (damn you Tom) [:D]

Not really sure what my overall plan will be this time. I know Richard has read all my three AARs. So he knows me and my playing style very well. In return I know almost nothing of him besides he having played 5 AE games into 43. He has also gone the entire distance in two WITP games and even some PACWAR ones. Experienced indeed! [X(]

My initial thought was to try and a provoke some kind of response by doing something stupid early on. Something to throw him off track in 42 so I can dodge the AV bullet. Again I think the deciding factor will be China (I hate China). I guess hoping that Richard will ignore China isn´t the best strategy though? [:D]

At least I will have a lot of time to think at an overall strategy for 42 tomorrow. Leaving home at 05:00 and will hopefully be home again by 01:00. Yuck!

So no fear I died from a first turn heart attack if I doesn´t respond tomorrow! [:D]

Good luck this time around and hope it goes the distance.

Now, for the IMPORTANT question.... Does the wife know this time?? [:D]

With no strategic bombing early, watch out for a quick grab of Palembang...

What will you do with Force Z this time?[:D]

Good luck!

As his last game was a bit swift, he can probably get away with just saying that he's continuing that one

Good luck (on both counts!)

I played Richard about a year ago before he had to drop the game for an extended spell. We only played for about a month, but I had a good time. I also think I got a bit lucky and really stymied him in China early on.

Best of luck.

Too bad you can't organize a Burning Man festival at Palembang. Your loss, IMO [;)].

Banzai!!! ... um, I mean, hip hip ... and all that. [:D]

Interesting China rules. Should slow some stuff down.

Nick (GJ) has the scene 30 Japanese stuff, so I can tell you it's not going to be easy. The early airframe arrivals and ship arrivals might be tougher than the extra IJA units.

With PDU off it'll balance out and you'll have a great game. May it be long and may all your Corsairs be Black Sheep!

Baaaaaaaaaa!! [:D]

Play slow and steady, my man. Eight-a-day is plenty.

And try to remember you have a navy this time, 'K? [:)]

Too bad you can't organize a Burning Man festival at Palembang.

You'd be surprised what a few squads of engineers can do...

Hey guys! Finished working for the the rest of the week! Pretty exhausted now though. I hope I will get the first turn from Richard today so I can send it back to him tonight. First allied turn isn´t that taxing. Its the second one that sucks. [:D]

Lowpe, Havn´t decided what to do with Z yet. Leaning towards something stupid... [;)]

Erik, thanks. I hope I´ll avoid AV this time. Playing -42 over and over is kind of depressing! [:D]

Loka, Interesting to hear you played him although only for a month! Any hints on what Richards opening will look like? Conservative one or something crazy like Tom did?

Its not the first few weeks to worry about. Its where he will go after SRA is secure and he has all those extra troops to use?? The big three choices are India, China, and Australia. Unless he goes for a far reaching landing above Bombay, then India is just temporary. I would like to see him go all in for Australia. I only recall John 3rd taking the whole continent.

P.S. Do turn 2 sober.

Sober schmober! [:D]

I´m not that worried about OZ. Taking those UH hexes would be close to impossible. The reason John managed to secure it was because he caught his opponents off guard. I´ll be massing my troops in Melbourne and Sydney and get those forts as high as possible ASAP. With 1000 AV and level 5-6 forts I think they would be close to impossible to capture.

It will be really interesting to see what Richard does. I know next to nothing about his playstyle. Not sure if I should expect something crazy or a slow deliberate and overwhelming advance. Will he do a Mersing gambit? Will he keep the KB in the DEI? Will he ignore PH?

Lots of ifs. [:)]

It's been a year, but I think I was able to punish him with lots of forward defensive actions. RN DDs out of Hong Kong made a mess at Samah, for example. I bet he will be more careful this time around.

Most likely yes! But I´ll try to cause some mischief nonetheless. I´m hoping he will hit PH as that will give me some room to maneuver in the DEI. If he has the KB around though I´ll just pack my bags and leave for greener pastures.

Turn is on its way to Richard right now. I see a lot of traffic in his AAR which is nice. But it also makes me worried he has something "special" planned! [X(] Doubt I´ll get the replay back tonight but I´ll try to make a quick update tomorrow morning.

Keep your fingers crossed for a PH strike!
