When I checked to see if there was a new version available I discovered that the current version on the support
download is V1.01.08r9

but the current version I already had downloaded and im playing is V1.06.1108r9

what's going on with tech support, does anybody pay attention to what your screens display, I'm confused
and would like to know what version I should have that is the most up-to-date and with the fewest bugs?

You should begin where you are right now, with the 1108r9 - that is the latest official patch.

You should also check out the beta versions posted by michaelm in this subforum. Some players choose not to play with them, but if you look at the changelog you'll see that it contains many bug fixes and gameplay updates. I recommend that you play with one of the latest versions - I use 1123x8 and 1123x9 in my games. We're up to 1123x10 now.
