Actually if you look on the Slitherine site there is a zoom mod already posted and there is a screenshot from the pre Charles V Spanish mod I am working on as well [:-]

Which raises an interesting question - will mods be transferable between Matrix, Slitherine and Steam regardless of where game was purchased?

The program is the same wherever you got it from, apart from the Steam version installing into a different folder.
There is no reason therefore why mods should not work with all versions.
