Great maps in the screen shots

Hey - as an old digital mapper from way back I really like the map screenshots ! The are great and really capture the flavor of the terrain for me.
I was wondering if that is all artist rendering, using some DEM data or a combination of the two like I suspect ? Please don't give away any trade secrets - just curious !
