Screw it, I'm cheating!

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Screw it, I'm cheating!

Post by Goblin »

Ok, long campaign versus the computer. Soviets against the Germans, 1942. Meeting engagement. I am royally whomping on the computer, more so even than usual. Suddenly, in the artillery phase, German dive bomber, 8 of them, fly in and almost destroy my central command!

Something wrong with that, you ask? Why, yes, I answer. I have airpower for both sides set to zero! As I sat watching my tanks and infantry be obliterated, I thought, hmmmmm must of misread it. I ended the game, checked, double checked, and triple checked. Airpower, both sides, set at ZERO.

I guess the computer finally got sick of losing, and said "Screw it, I'm cheating!"

:D  :D  :D

LOL!!

Sorry, I couldn't resist! That is THE best example of utter frustration, I don't think anyone who has not played SPWAW could possibly understand.

Say, I did watch that special last night on UFO's......:D

And you people were bitching about the AI not being smart enough. "Be careful what you wish for..."

As long as it doesn't kill your A0 you can make it through.

Once when I was in a defend the AI bought all planes and few infantry - it wiped me out - ARGH! Luckily I had saved the end of the previous battle and started again from there. That's not cheating - is it?

Heh, heh, Jim, you reminded me of the time, when SP:WW2 first came out, there was a nightime scenario in my German campaign. Well, the AI bought TONS of aircraft, and for three turns I took it, then thought, hey, it's night-time, WTF?? Weeeell, I opened up SPww2edit, gave all the enemy planes just enough damage, said 'how do you like me now' and returned to the game. Was great fun thereafter to watch flaming planes enter the field!! THAT was cheating, and I felt justified, and GOOD about it!!!!!:D :D :D

Naa - probably not needed. ;)

What you mean "old man"? I'm only as old as I feel - and that varies from 18 to 80 depending on the day. Well, on some days I guess you right - ARGH!!

Don't know if it will make anyone feel better, but having been involved with computer wargaming from the earliest days, its always been the same: When the AI is losing it cheats, sometimes outright illegal stuff, I've seen it often enough to know the programmers do it deliberately.

That was one thing about boardgaming. Your opponent might have "artificial" intellignece all right. But you didn't let him do stuff like the computer AI does either.

Solitaire boardgaming was really neat, it always came out the way you wanted, funny about that. (No, it didn't really, just kidding.)
