HOW TO ATTACH RAIL-GUNS, SIEGE WEAPONS?

Trying to take Leningrad, and the Bear keeps biting back. First exposure to heavy losses the Germans have faced, and Von Leeb is demanding siege weapons. Cannot find any support units that have them though. How can AGN get the heavy weapons it needs to cleanse continent of Bolshevism?

Thanks!

I shouldn't worry, Stalin did that for you. On the other hand, if you just want Russia for its resources, look up the units you want in CR and either transfer them direct or via higher HQ over 2 turns. If you don't know which units to look for, as the Irish are reputed to say, 'you don't want to start from there.' No. Go to production, find the heavy guns and click on the units that use them, that will take you to them in the CR.

Yeah one can go to the CR and see all the units. Axis have 229 art units. how does one know which one have the rail/siege guns?

Production screen. Find the gun then click on the # of units that use them. This then populates the CR with the units that have them.

Move all the Ju-87's up north, fling siege guns

Yeah, actually now that I think about it, the on criticism I have of this title is bomb unit mode seems impotent to me though.

for transfer, go to CR, select arty (below), select location (xx,yy) unit window appears, select HQ on right, hq destination screen appears, take your pick

could use "guns" on CR to list the batteries in order of number of guns, heavy stuff has fewer guns, and easier to find the big stuff this way

Well AGN has plenty of heavy weapons at the corp and army level. But for whatever reason cannot get it assigned to the divisions! Ca only transfer pioneer and stug battalions!

I can see why people think that, but I am of the opinion that many tend to underrate the effect of ground bombing. Yeah, the lost column don't seem to turn up much, but looking opening the details is pretty revealing. Just did a test bombing with 160 bombers. Lost were 253 men and 3 artillery pieces. The details show 20 elements for 190 men as destroyed. Furthermore 11 elements with 139 men are damaged. The key, however, are the disruptions. 238 elements with 2500(!) men. That's the hidden effect.

Artillery can only be assigned to corps level.

SigUp has it. Get desired weapons to corps that control & are close to the assault pieces. Having multiple corps in assault helps and hold assault for a turn after forces are collected. Not sure that really big pieces are worth the trouble, but interesting from an historical perspective.

I'd give thought to Pelton's suggestion, what he's forgot many still learning.

Patchnotes for .08 specifically mention "super heavy" artillery as being particularly effective against forts.

1st,2nd turn German, 22june41, I go through and put all rail/siege guns, into OKW or Army Group HQ. Take off the strain of hauling that stuff everywhere. Then when I do need them I know where they are and can mass them at one place quick, usually up north.

That's really great guys but still no mention either here or in the manual how to transfer from HQ to division. The usual assign feature doesn't work -- some rule I Am not ware of is preventing the heavy weapons transfer.

As sigUp posted, artillery can only be assigned to corps level (or higher).

Okay I Am missing something here. Corp level = HQ. I did not think HQ gets involved in combat. I mean, someone gotta put the cannonball in and fire it.

HQs in range can allocate SUs to any combat by their subordinates, but it is not under the control of the player. All the player can do is maximize the chance of allocation by minimizing the distance between the HQ and the relevant combat, and by not moving the HQ prior to combat.

All combat SUs can be attached to corps or higher HQ and the HQ can commit them to various combats in a turn. Apart from direct attachment to combat unit counters, which automatically makes the SU fight in all the battles of that unit, the highest chance of commitment to a battle is from attachment to the HQs commanding the counters in an attack. In the Axis case, that's usually a corps HQ, Russian usually army. You can't attach artillery SUs to combat counters, so attach them to the HQ commanding them.

Also note that once an HQ moves in a turn, the chance of SUs attached to it joining combat are DRASTICALLY reduced, though you can still attach non-artillery SUs directly to combat counters.

Never seen support unit commitment after an HQ was moved, believe "drastically reduced" should be "prevented."

As before 1.08, attaching support units to various HQs is too free while attaching them to divisions seems too restrictive.

BTW, I see the big German guns as important, if not essential, for certain siege investments. My bad to have not recognized that in earlier post. Just, its a pain to get them where they're most useful. KWG is right (as are many others) but some have said that they're fuel hogs when carted around with HQs.
