I don't like pirates in the game. Is there any way to play the game without them? I've tried deleting them in th edit screen but they just reappear. I'm playing DW Universe. Thanks.

Start a game using custom settings, and you can set pirates to none there.

If you create a custom game as a standard empire (the bottom left button in the New Game screen, not one of the "Standard Empire in _ Age" options), there is a slider that controls the number of pirates in the game. One of the options on that slider is "none." You can also check a box that prevents destroyed pirate factions from respawning, if you'd rather continue to play with pirates but don't want to have to deal with them permanently.

These options, along with a strength slider for the pirates, are in the lower right corner of the screen that shows up after you click on the "Custom game as standard empire" button.
