there had been a thread on this where it was pointed out that the switch screens used "soft hyphen" somewhere. I' dammed if I can find the thread again. Any guidance on finding the thread or reminding me where the soft hyphen goes??

The point is that in the PDF files (the manual, etc.) it is a different character so that it looks typographically correct. The problem comes in if you cut & paste from the PDF, because it looks like a hyphen but it isn't. If yo udo cut & paste, just delete and re-type all the hyphens that you cut & pasted.

thank you....you were absolutely correct. for me the real time consumer was finding the proper numbers for the screen switches. Only the correct one works.

I've been reading through these threads on setting "switches" on for the .exe. How and where does one do this?

blackcloud6, switches is possible use only for "War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" in game root directory (or if you use beta patch, then in Beta2 directory). For example:
"H:\Install\TurnBase\War in the Pacific Admirals Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1680 -py1050 -deepColor -altFont -SingleCpuOrders -multiaudio -cpu2 -dd_sw
More detailed info about switches are in "WhatsNew.pdf" in game root directory.
